Well, we had a RIF last week and it detonated my project, along with a couple of my direct reports. Then, the next day, the new org chart was released. My manager and skip-level manager are no longer with the company, so I have a new director and a new VP. Then, they pulled all of my direct reports onto other teams. Lastly, they moved one of my peers back to an individual contributor, and put him and his team under me. Now I'm on loan to my old director, and a new director, but reporting to a different director.

I'm confused, but I'm actually in a pretty good position, from the 30K-foot view. Sheesh.

I hate reorgs.

But this whole roots and rocks everywhere, and take a left on a switchback and don't look to your right because you'll fall 100 ft (intermediate trail in GA), really sucks!

As a kid I didn't mind falling off a bike, as an adult not so much. I tried MTBing a few times but got tired of having to look out for stuff that's going to knock me off my bike.

Interesting. No mention of whatever safety standards, CPSC or DOT tests.

Well, that's not good. I know the company's in Vancouver. Surely they've considered some kind of certification testing.

Witty response requested.

I'm selling a bunch of stuff on craigslist. I do this 4x a year or so. I've got some RAM for sale for $10, and I get this response:

From somewhitenig***@xxxxxx.com:

ill take the ram can you bring it to <town about 25 miles away>

wanders 11-13-12 06:57 AM

"Sure, I'd be more than happy to bring it to <town> as soon as gas is less than 1 dollar a gallon and my time is worth less than 25 cents an hour.

I will be in touch."

Just I’ll give you my two cents (I’m actually being serious for one post today). You have to be really careful online (not trying to lecture you) as you never know who is looking. We all like to poke fun at each other and have probably gotten to know each other on a fairly good level BUT to shovel’s response you have given enough information for someone to ‘learn’ about you. In another thread you gave your first name and the starting initial of your last, you have also said where you live. It wouldn’t take long to figure things out. It’s different for us ‘old guys’ but as a minor you have to be careful. Believe me I have the same issues with my kids (17 and 9).
Just want to keep you aware that’s all…

"Sure, where would you like to meet? I work nights, but would be happy to bring it by when I get off at 0300."

"Can you give me three weeks or so? I need to get it out of my neighbor's computer and figure I'll have made bail by then."

shovelhd 11-13-12 07:35 AM

Keep 'em coming, folks. I'm thinking of batching them all up and sending it off as one response.

There is a TON of truth to this.

Last summer, I posted a story about a gun being pulled on my while riding. The next night, a guy I race against asked me about it. I asked him how he knew, and he told me he read it on here - he doesn't post much but he does read the site - and based on a few of my posts, he was able to figure out who I am. (The race report thread makes this quite easy.)

Since then, I've been a lot more thoughtful about the things I post on here.

saratoga 11-13-12 08:00 AM

I've had good luck selling big stuff on CL. My 09 Buell was sold in two days with no hassle. Same thing for a bunch of diesel truck parts I had from the Duramax I got rid of. Met the people at a Wal Mart parking lot, and changed cash for goods no questions asked.

Tried to sell my old (2008) road bike cheap and it was the biggest pain in the ass. Specifically said in the ad that it was a good bike for someone looking to upgrade without spending a lot of dough. Mentioned that I had raced it for four seasons, not crashed it and had taken good care of it. Was asking $1000 for a Carerra with chorus, eurus wheels & good tires, new chorus chain, new saddle, 11-23 and 12-25 cassettes, and new bar tape. Everything was good to ride the way it was. "will you trade for my......?" "man that's a lot of miles on the bike, can you guarantee that it will last?" "can I pay you half now and half in another month?"

Finally said screw it and it's still sitting in my garage.

I'd send a note to user, Dux_Helm. He's on the forum and seems to be pretty legit. You can find his thread about the helmets here.
