Why do amateurs even get a payout? I find the whole concept of paying winners of any race besides the P/1/2 (or whatever the elite race is) anything other than their entry fee back and some schwag rather strange.

Not that this has any impact on how your friend should feel, just commenting on payouts in general.

The spoils are nice. I'm still wearing a pair of Oakleys I won a few years ago, and enjoying a nice Park track pump. Just part of the sport. The money is great to take the team out for burritos after the race (or divide the payout -- current team generally prefers a celebration).

Funny statement because a Domestic Pro friend of mine echoed similar thoughts. It took him until he was quite a bit older to get his deal and he felt cheated because of the fact that there were plenty of dopers getting contracts before him and he felt that because he was clean that it cost him potential contracts.

Speaking as a guy who actually did buy and ride a recumbent for a couple years when my back and neck were in really bad shape... it's not the worst thing in the world... still allowed me to ride, pain-free, which helped me lose weight and get back in shape to ride a real bike. Just sayin.

I really enjoy his Velonews reads.
Would be a ton of fun to ride with I'm sure.

In all seriousness, it's something I would consider if I had chronic issues like that. But it would be a little nuts for a broken collarbone.

Yeah, I looked for those and they were about 100ish. The phone is an S2 with a dual core etc etc, so it's probably not really worth spending that money on. It's a gift. I think I could have gotten away for a few months by putting a protective cover on the screen, but so it goes...

I think I destroyed more than just the screen and digitizer. I think those are on the left and the lcd is on the right and cracked through now.

I'm trying to craigslist an N4. Never used an LG phone, but I think I'll be able to get a few years out of it since I don't do anything too nuts with my phone (other than ripping them open apparently).

I do listen to stored music on them, but 6-8 gigs is plenty for me. I don't understand why they're selling for 250 used on ebay when they cost that much new... Craigslist has some for like 200 so I'm hoping to be able to talk them down to 160 or so. Obviously I'll try it in person so it doesn't turn out to be a stolen/bad esn.

Well, the phone was sold with no margin, so there's not going to be much depreciation. It's still a high-tier phone, with respectable performance, and stacks up well against $650 phones. I even won a magazine photo contest with its ("horrible" according to every review ever) camera. So, if there's something better available for $250, go for it, but that's just what these phones are worth. Also remember that VERY few buyers managed to snag one new for $250, and they aren't selling them.

It's a weird place in the market for a phone, but there it is.

Shrug, I like the idea of having an expandable memory card, but the prices for used s3's are silly...

I'll probably snag this one for 200 if I can.

In other news my boss just let slip that the 2 new chairs she ordered for her office are because the old chairs were uncomfortable for some of our team members. New chairs are armless, old chairs had arms.

Hmm. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I am fat sympathetic, but wow.

I used to be 270lbs and still have food issues from those habits. I don't think anyone chooses to be that big more than anyone chooses to fall into alcoholism or drug addiction. The only difference is that it's acceptable to have an intervention for someone with tracks up their arms, but not for someone who's eating themselves to death.

This is a good point and an honest self evaluation would tell me that I really have no right to not be sympathetic. We all have subconscious viewpoints that we may or may not realize. I am not really saying its right but my heart certainly doesn't go out to them like it does with other issues:/

This is up there with my weirdest garbage finds. I live in a small condo complex, maybe 18 other full timers.... I am the only one I know who rides on the road. Today I found a barely used set of Kreitler Challenger 4.5" rollers sitting there in the dumpster when i was taking out the trash.... whose on earth are these, and why would you throw away a $350 set of rollers!!!!! Mine now!

I hold a similar negative opinion to all "body-acceptance" and "health at any size advocates who seem to promote being satisfied at very high bf%. I am sympathetic to the struggle around food and know it well, but I have never met anyone who lost weight, got healthy, and regretted it.

I was there too...

Not that big, but big enough for my frame. I smartened up in time, but it did take a major life change to get me on the correct path.

Just to throw in there (and play devil's advocate) there are a lot of thin people that are extremely unhealthy.

I can get an S4 through my work plan now (been on BlackBerry only previously). I might make that move, but in my heart I know that I'll be having to give up my N4, and I'd honestly rather keep it... just not to the tune of paying for an entire phone plan. Tough call... as I'm not sure if they'll let me migrate my mobile# anyway.
