Nice, a man after my own heart. I am only allowed to drink tequila at home and around very good friends. If I lose control bad things can happen so I need to be kept to the confines of my house though I am usually pretty fun.

And yep, that was me. What's a dazzling urbanite like me doing in a rustic setting like this? I blame the hooch.

Nice. My '42 was slow as hell, but would go up anything. Top speed was 59 and I drove it 60 everywhere. My dad had an '80 CJ-7 at the time with the 304 V8 and some minor mods (hooker headers, etc). That thing was frightening. I've never accelerated that fast in 2 feet of snow before. Yeesh.

...then my dad's roommate took me for a ride in his ice racer "The Beast." Ran low 8s at Bandemere. 800hp Small block 400 on a CJ-5 frame with just enough fiberglass so look almost like a CJ. It would leave 8" deep ruts in solid ice up on Georgetown lake (running bolted tires).

There are parts of that lifestyle I miss. Ice racing was a blast. I had a 69 CJ-5 for while that was quite quick too.

A local welder here bought a Cj-8 off a farm owner. Something like 20k original miles. Lots of rust and pretty shot suspension. He put a Cummings turbo 4 from a bread truck in it. Says he cruises on the highway at 80 getting 25mpg at 1500 RPMs. Mmmm diesel jeep.

The Scout my friend's dad had was a 4 cylinder with a supercharger. It had 3 gas tanks, I think, and a winch with controls inside and outside.
We used to go to their cabin near 29 Palms and I always rode in the back, no seat, just metal.

love the Blazing Saddles reference.

Having a garage clean out sale. Posting stuff in the Road Forum classifieds as it comes up. One item of note is a Quarq Rotor 3d 175 with q-rings. $1700.
