That was the hardest part of this season. I had no motivation, and just didnt work towards my goals. I got 4 upgrade points, versus the 35 i wanted, and i probbaly will not get asked onto a bigger team for next season (ships already sailed). It sucks to look back and see that i "wasted" a season, but i enjoyed my summer of just being a kid. It was the best summer i've had in a long time.

At the cross race my team attended this weekend there was a Settler's of Catan tournament, and best combined finish with the actual bike racing and the board game got a big trophy. I like the game, just not sure how I feel about mixing it with bike racing.

Also, I'm sick as balls right now. Kind of sucks getting sick after a rest week. Too much traveling, and too much school. I always get sick this first month back at school, my body just isnt ready for the germs yo

Making a kilometer blurry
Hmmm. Never had trouble with my Acura TSX before, but here at 85K miles, it seems a tooth got busted off a gear somehow in the final drive assembly of the manual transmission. Prolly looking at $2k.

Hmmm I was just thinking of getting a Kawa KLX250S (or similar) with a bike rack on it for riding to far-ish away races (say 2-3 hours max, mostly backroads from here, so not much more than 50mph). Part of the criteria though is that I want it light enough to throw on a hitch mount rack to bring it around when we travel. Would this work?

How exactly does that happen? I've never heard of that being something people break. Out of warranty I assume? Have you been drag racing it or something?

On the category versus time versus work vs life thing... With a full time+ job, family, I'm tapped out at like 5-6 hours a week. Usually up to 3 rides/week is fine. I'm cat3 fodder but on a long climb I'm probably a bit better, because that is what I train for. I'm sure I could train smarter i.e. more specifically, and do better in road races, crits, etc. but on 5-6 hours, even if I cobbled points together over the years, I don't think I should upgrade given time constraints.

i don't understand the contempt for cyclocross. for all the negative nellys, have you actually raced cyclocross? it's a good way to keep some intensity and competitive fire in the belly in the early/late fall, which is "tweener" time for road season in most of the country (i.e. too early to train for next year, but road season is over for he current year). i've raced a few seasons of it a few years ago, but since having kids and preferring road racing, decided to stop as i wanted to dedicate more time to family. cx definitely helped my bike handling and enhanced my ability to suffer, that sport is fricken' hard.

Oh, and cyclocross rules. I'm probably going to focus most of my training on crits and cyclocross in the future and not worry about specific training for road races.
