Harsh. I'd like to see those pics. Of the wheels of course.

Merry belated Christmas all. Back in to work today. 6 of us here today, as opposed to Monday, when it was just me. It'll be pretty light around here until after the New year. Not much work being done.

Got a GoPro from the grandparent's in law, pretty sweet. If only I actually rode my bike or sailed. I suppose I could wear it while playing board games with the wife (got Seasons for Christmas, plus Cards Against Humanity (not a board game)).

As opposed to: Cards Against Humanity, Chamomile Tea and Distant relatives?

Yeah, something like that. It's definitely a drinking game. Rules: if you look like you aren't having fun, you get to have another drink.

Or maybe you're just a prude.

Which also means you get to have another drink.

Yeah, we're not sure Cards Against Humanity will get much play for a number of reasons:

a) it's not really my cup of tea
b) it's not really my wife's cup of tea
c) it requires at least 4 people, and even if we could teach the dog to play that only makes 3 of us. Plus, it's 17 human years and up (or 2.5 dog years) and she's only 1.5 dog years old (10 human years).

We have played Seasons twice already and are really enjoying it.

yeah CAH is a pretty nasty game.

I wonder if 'kwaki has played? It's certainly up his alley... (pun intended)

I'm sure it would be fun with a group of friends drinking at a party, but we don't really do that anymore.

I played it recently (on Monday the 23rd) drinking wine with my sister, a friend of her's from high school, and said friend's parents. Everyone was drunk by the time I showed up to hang for a little while so I didn't find it too weird.

My stuff is all vinyl so I don't know if it exists on CD and if it does if the CD is remotely as good as the vinyl.

Miles Davis "Kind of Blue" is a wonderful starting point. I love that album a lot. It captured lightning in a bottle on every track.

The early CTI albums by Freddie Hubbard (Red Clay, First Light, Straight Life, and Sky Dive) are awesome and very accessible for a youngster.

I know there's at least one cave diver on here, so I'm sure you've seen this already. We were actually talking about cave diving at lunch today, and how dangerous it is and how you need to be super certified and stuff. And this dad decides that his open water certification plus his son's totally uncertification is good enough.

https://gawker.com/father-and-teenage...-du-1490358370

Pretty much murder-suicide.

Divers are pretty much a cross section of people, a lot of whom are oblivious to the risk involved in doing things. SCUBA certifications are a bit of a joke depending on who the instructor is, there are good ones but over the years the certifying agencies have dumbed things down a lot under the "anyone can do this!" banner. And certifications are as much a revenue stream as anything else.

In this case you have Cat 4 taking a newbie out to race a really nasty crit course.

Sad.

So my parents were in town and came over Saturday. We actually played CAH for a few hours, my wife and my parents and I, and we all loved it. It was slightly awkward at first, but really it wasn't that bad. It's just all so ridiculous you can't help but laugh. Also, I'm terrible at it and my wife is incredibly good, she stomped us all.

So I've been off on vacation; what'd I miss?

Sounds like it's time to buy a minivan and start makin' babies.

Seriously, CAH is good fun with the right crowd. It's funny, I think I'm a bit older than you, but hanging out with friends and drinking is still a big part of my social life. Not in a college binge-drinking sense, mind you; there're perfectly responsible, adult ways to have a party like that. Anyway, my wife and I would play with our grad school friends in TN. Here, probably with my cousins and/or old HS and college friends. Good times. I wouldn't really want to play with my parents, though. And we once made the mistake of agreeing to join a game with my friend's little brother (still in high school) and his friends. That was horrible and we left the room soon after. Ugh. I feel all dirty now.

Haha, let me know if you're hosting sometime. CAH is a rollicking good time.

Hope you had a great vacation! How's your collarbone?

You bet man. I'll let you know when we move, maybe we'll break it out at our housewarming party. You on FB? Look me up!

Collarbone is getting better. Still not 100%. I rode a bike yesterday for the first time since the crash, it went okay. But don't tell my surgeon. Ended up doing too much (more than just the riding) and was sore for the rest of the day, though. So like I said, getting there, but some ways to go yet. I have a follow-up on the 10th of January, hopefully by then we can set a date to get this damn rod out of my shoulder.

I hope you've had a good vacation as well!

The quiet house is about to end! Boys are on their way home. They're just outside of Montreal and should be home in time for dinner. Haven't seen my youngest since this past summer when we headed east for Master Nationals.

It's time to relax and re-connect...

For a while when I played it, I would always put down the cards that I personally thought was the funniest. It's all about knowing/reading the players' sense of humor, which can be discerned after the first few rounds.

There's cards for people who like political humor, sexual humor, "potty" humor. All very childish and some quite horrible, of course.

That's what PTO is for!

Between PTO and holiday pay, I've had between the 19th and the 2nd off work!!! Hanging w my sister (and best friend) visiting from new york, riding, drinking/partying, working out, catching up on chores, playing piano, lazing around my parents beautiful yard...

Love staycations.

Also my supervisor is going to LOVE me when I come back as he has been operating and preparing samples for ICP-MS while I've been gone, which takes like ~6-8hrs/week currently. Hahahahahaha. Hopefully he hasn't had to do any troubleshooting because I'm way better at it now.
