Promoter rant. Is BikeReg that difficult to use? Is it that something is incredibly confusing about directions?
There's a link to a start line address directly under the map.
There's a link to the Event Website, which has a specific Directions tab.
There's a link from the Event Website to USAC's race info, which includes the flyer, which has the directions on it.
From here
Each week I get emails from races (generated through BikeREg so I know they're on the site) asking where the race is located. Obviously the racer is new to the scene in CT, but it seems a bit weird. I've had racers tell others that they went to the sponsor's store, thinking the race was there, then headed north when the folks there said, no, the races are in Bethel. These were relatively experienced racers (Cat 3s). It's one of the reasons why I made the sponsor a "p/b" instead of leading the name of the series with the sponsor name.
I don't have canned copy/paste responses but the directions thing is such that I may make one. Well there's only one race left, but still.
It may be that people are pranking me, I dunno, I'm not good detecting that, but if it's for real then it's weird.

Not sure. It was right before the race started so I just took it off. Didn't get a chance to ask him why. I will bring it with me again and ask him next week why.
I did send an email asking if there was some sort of rule I was missing about helmet cams in races.

it's the p/b Outdoor Sports Center thing. looks like the location.
(from someone not from there)
Also, maybe give a street address for the registration location. People can recognize that more easily, and pull it up on their phone/car gps.
just suggestions.

I figured the name, hence all my links to directions, including the non-address link in the BikeReg page. Problem is that the best GPS location is one of the complainants so there's legacy stuff with the address but the BikeReg spot is the best.
Sponsor, my only money one since I think time began, wanted the name in the race name, trying to figure out ways to do it without being confusing.
Ah well. The thing is if you just look for anything with "directions" they all point you to the same few hundred square yards of real estate. I guess I need to be more clear.

I had one official almost sprain my neck when he tugged super hard on my helmet cam, unannounced, while I was waiting for the race to start. I think he was looking for an excuse to make me take it off. He sort of laughed at me but let me keep the cam on. I wonder if he'd do the same thing to Bahati (it was on the other coast) or any of his ilk.
I had one official tell me to take the helmet cam off because it was "loose equipment". However based on the official's initial warning the official thought the cam was a radio set up. When I pointed out it doesn't communicate the official told me to remove it anyway. I took it off because that's the right thing to do, even if it's not.

If my camera worked on my bars (the shaking/bumps makes it shut off) I would still use it that way.

Shimano finally updated its offerings and now provides DA 9000 arms for SRMs - it's a relatively recent change. So, you can now get SRMs with 7800 arms with a five-arm spider, 7800 arms with a four-arm spider and 9000 arms with four-hole spider.

During my ride on Saturday, I noticed my rear derailleur was shifting pretty crappy.
I know I need to update the cables, but while I was looking at it, I notice that the rear derailleur cable rubs the frame under the bottom bracket. I went back to the shop where I bought the frame, and sure enough, I do not have the proper cable guide under the BB on my frame. And it's been like that for about a year and a half. Fortunately, it is not rubbing too much and has not caused any substantial damage or gouging in the frame.
Also, I noticed my tires are pretty shot. There were some spots where I could see the tire casing. So I peeled the tires off. I think I need to clean some of the glue off the rims before I glue on new tires. (Yes, I ride tubulars all the time. I ended up with too many sets of carbon tubulars - it was too good of a deal from a buddy to pass up - so I figured I might as well ride them all the time and give them some real use.)

Since I can't currently ride, I've been surfing Amazon for CDs of albums I liked and still have but can't play due to no longer having the old audio system and turntable. It looks like it would be cheaper to find a turntable that connects to my laptop, especially since a couple of those albums are out of print and collectible. Recommendations? I'm not looking for super audiophile-level quality; the idea is to save them to iTunes and copy them to my iPod, I just don't want them coming out sounding like MP3s. If there's freeware that works better, I'd be interested.

Promoters are allowed to have their own rules. That's one possibility. I believe there's a media waiver everyone signs when they get their license so a USAC race can have people taking pictures/video without any further ado.

There's at least 30% of the field with cameras on bikes/helmets

I'm not a fan of cameras. It seems to me (impression) races with them tend to be crashier. I have also indeed seen them tumble through the field causing crashes. In one spectacularly stupid move a ride grabbed his brakes and stopped when his camera fell off (downhill in prospect park). That cause a crash as well.

I haven't raced enough to see any negative impact from them in my races, so they don't really bother me, and I like seeing the videos. I think integrated helmet cameras are probably the future. Costs for these bits are going down.

I'm surprised that nobody has officially challenged them with the possibility that a camera would compromise US DOT or CSPC standards when attached to a helmet. I was actually surprised that we had more than a season of GoPro videos.

I guess I've been lucky with Quarqs. My first one had to have the spider replaced after 4-5 years. They charged me $500 IIRC. Second one is coming up on two years with no issues.

I don't find much interesting from these helmet cam videos. staring at asses and elbows, I can do that during a race, I sure as hell don't want to relive it after!

I kind of agree. My wife once asked if I wanted one. I said "Why? I don't really want to sit down and spend an hour watching it." I guess I could fast forward through a lot of it, but I didn't feel like doing that nor committing the time to edit it down to a usable clip.
I'm amazed at how CDR does it.

It's the PowerMeter chassis that is cracked...the crank arms and chainrings
are good! Thus, we are upgrading your PowerMeter chassis for $500 and using
your existing DA7800 cranks and chainrings.
