Speaking of sad news, the very attractive woman at work is leaving for another job.

Send them to me. I am currently travelling in Europe and had my passport and wallet stolen. Can you please wire $2500 to me so I can get new documents, and then I will repay you when I am back home ....

So I'll be in Chapel Hill starting Monday. Unfortunately, given a ridiculously aggressive meeting schedule it seems unlikely I'll have much socializing time beyond when I roll into town. My rides will mostly (I only have to train two days) be just dropping the rollers where I'm staying as my time is really limited and I can't afford too many hems and haws saying 'where am I?'
If anyone is into meeting up Monday I should roll in by 6:00pm and I'm going to grab dinner somewhere. Hopefully some good local fare. My wife suggested some chicken place or something. So if anyone is free and wants to break bread, or chicken, let's see what we can put together.
As of now my plan is to skip town Thursday when my meeting ends and begin the drive back to NJ on route for New England crit racing.

Time Out is known for its Chicken Biscuits, but that's more of a late night, post drinking kind of place. Otherwise, it's pretty standard bar food.
If you want Carolina BBQ - vinegar based sauce that took me a long time to get used to - we could hit The Pig or head up to The Pit in Durham and then pop in to Fullsteam Brewery for a beer or two.
If you want a good beer selection closer to Chapel Hill, there's Tylers or Milltown, both of which have decent food.
And if you want really good, kind of fancy food - the kind of stuff that gets written about in fancy publications, well, then we need to go up to Durham.
Wanders probably knows some of those places.

I submitted my cat 3 upgrade, but it turns out that one race last summer reported incorrect results to USAC. Way too long ago to get fixed now. Leaving me exactly one point short of the upgrade.
I'm sure I'll pick up that point (I have scored points in every race this year so far), but I kind of wanted this to be done already. Oh well.

I'm easy. I don't drink, so that's not much of a concern for me personally. I like food, so good food, is well, err good.

also, speaking of UHC, the corporate group apparently also owns Optum (yes, as in the Optum p/b Kelly Benefits, or whatever they are currently called)

edit: actually looked it up, and they rejected me with 29 and I ended up getting 4 more points the next race. /shrug. I kind of believe that after a point, the pattern is made and they should realize that and allow since it's being dragged out. But I guess rules are rules.

Yeah, the rules are the rules, that's fine. If they let people slide with N-1 points, they might as well make the rule N-1, and so on.
What's annoying is the situation with this one race: I finished 2nd in a crit I did last summer, which was shortened by a thunderstorm, so the finish was hectic. The promoter put the correct results on their web site the next day, but never reported results to USAC that I could find, despite my nagging. Now it turns out they did report results to USAC at the end of the season, but they are incorrect, and the online results don't exist any more, I can't dredge them up using any sort of wayback caching, and it doesn't matter anyway because the promoter didn't respond to my emails a year ago so there's no reason to expect them to make the effort to correct year-old results now. So, three points vanished.
What's extra annoying is I thought I needed one more point before Battenkill, and I got 3 points there. And now I need one more point again!
But like I said, it's fine. I'll get one more point eventually. It was just a goal of mine, silly as it might be, to have Battenkill be my last 4 race, just as it was my last 5 race last year.

NYC seems to be moving away from masters racing. No masters' fields at Orchard Beach, Bear Mt, or Harlem.

If it was me, I'd nap & chill then frantically clean for about 20 minutes before she gets home!

Pretty sure we had a crash in our race today because some kid's go pro came off his mount and he reacted to try and grab it (it had a backup string so it has hanging).
Awesome.

I pre-rode it today - along with dozens of other people, the parking lot at the school looked like it was race day!
The second half of the gravel, after you crest the hill and start down, is really loose and squrimy on the right. Left lane is better, but of course, not allowed. Who knows what it will be like next weekend after tomorrow's snowstorm.

Boring race coming up this weekend!
I'm a big guy so I like flatter courses. This weekend's race, which is only the second race of the season here in CO, is pancake flat. It's a 100' RR - 3 laps around a 13 mile rectangular loop of country roads. My 45/4's field will be large, with 60 or more riders, and the course is on a 2-lane highway with no shoulders and a strongly enforced yellow-line rule. Which means that moving around in the pack will be difficult for as long as the pack stays together, which will likely be the whole race.
Last year the pack stayed together until the final sprint. Comments were, "the easiest race ever".
I'd be happy to work in a break, but these rarely work in our field. I've tried to initiate before, but I've yet to learn how to get any accomplices.
At least I can sprint.

the rules are the rules but the reps have discretion. in fact, they can refuse an upgrade to people who just have the minimum.
in your case, you truly did earn it; what surprises me is that you were denied the upgrade -- assuming you explained the situation to the rep. if i put myself in your shoes, i think i might send a polite email to your rep (separate email addy should be listed on the USAC site) and explain the situation; perhaps also ask him/her if there is anything you can do. it can't hurt and is minimal trouble.
it's not like you are asking for something you didn't earn.
