During my race 3/4 last week, last lap, a guy attacked just before a sweeping 180-degree bend about 600m from the finish. He turned to look at his gap, and went out of the turn at high speed and crashed hard. The details are not coming together quickly, but he broke his spine and severed part of his spinal cord, and is just starting to get feeling back in his legs. They think he hit a tree (which I don't see as possible, because I think there are race care barriers in the way).
Sad news. Scary stuff. LA visited him in the ICU, which is generous of him.

2 experienced guys in our club crashed badly on a potholed downhill training ride a few weeks ago.

Huh, for some reason I thought I remembered you saying you didn't bother with RRs anymore, but I must have misremembered. The promoter is the guy who took down CDR a few years ago, right?

I haven't done many in the last few years, but it's not that I can't do them or am adverse to them. It's just that there are a lot of holes in the calendar for me where there are only RRs.

But a great lead out. I can beat him head to head. He hates that.

My wife likely will drag me out on Saturday evening to watch the pro crits. If you guys head to Foothills, let me know, and I'll try to meet you. I owe Wanders a beer.

I'll chime in a little. I believe that the 2930 is a typo and should probably read more like 1930. I would question the posted weight as well. I am 5'10.5" and weigh in right now at 224 and that dude looks much larger than I do even though it would appear that our bodyfat level is similar (he may be a little leaner). I am not sure why they would say his max 5s is that as he doesn't have power on his bike. That being said though I have never followed a powerlifting program and have never worn a suit (that is where they refer to 1 ply) his powerlifting numbers are not that far out of line.
At a bodyweight of about the same as his I have pulled a 605 deadlift 5 times.
Recently I squatted a 715 to 20" 5 times
I do not do bench press due to shoulder issues but have narrow gripped 385 5 times.
I hack squatted 8 45 pound plates per side 8 times a month ago. His numbers seem about right from that perspective though the cycling side seems a little outlandish as I would not hesitate to have a head to head sprint with him.
Oh yeah, I lift clean.
If I were all jacked up again I would demolish any of my current lifts or power output...

Had a little mishap on the bike leaving the house today. Make this move every ride out. Today had some brand new Michelin Pro4 Service Course tires on and they were a tad slippery. I hit the curb edge and the rest is history...

That was my first thought. What happened to his riding buddy?
Making a kilometer blurry
Holy s**t, he landed in the back of the truck and they drove off with him. They murdered him, at the very least by hitting, leaving the scene, and willfully failing to assist.
