The chainrings are not worn - I only have 1500 miles on the bike. The chain is seriously wedged between the small chain ring and the bracket, it will not budge. Last week when I rolled it down to the LBS they said they would have to take off the chainrings but then the mechanic pulled on it with an allen key and it popped back on the small chain ring.

I may ask the LBS about a chain catcher. Or maybe I shouldn't suggest anything and see what they recommend. Then I could ask about a few of the things that are mentioned here. If changing the tension on the cables to adjust the FD is all it needs, that could be great and I could probably do that myself.

"Chain suck" is typically used to refer to the chain hanging onto the underside of the inner chain ring, and getting pulled up and trapped against the chain stay. It happens on mountain bikes with mud. It's pretty rare to happen on a road bike, unless the chainrings are seriously worn.

If you're actually having chain suck on multiple occasions, you need to look at replacing the inner chainring.

If you're dropping the chain to the inside, there are 3 things to consider. First and foremost, is the FD adjustment, most notably the limit screw. Second is consider how you're shifting if you go all the way to the biggest cog in the back before shifting from the big ring to the little ring in the front, the resulting chain line makes it more likely to drop the chain, and Third would be to consider a chain catcher, such as a Deda Dog Fang.
+1

For a chain watcher if you have a round seat tube I think the N-Gear Jumpstop is the best out there. The metal cage and separate horizontal/vertical/twist adjustment is key.

If you don't then I think K-Edge has a similar thing but not sure what it works with.

nvm, it's for round tubes also:
Road Clamp-on Chain Catcher - Road - K-EDGE Chain Catchers

I bought a regular k-edge and it's next to useless compared to the N-Gear. With the N-Gear I can adjust the derailleur to hurl the chain into the small ring and never have it fall off. With the k-edge you can't do that, it moves pretty easily.

Doubt you need to change the tension on the cable. You likely need to adjust the limit screw, so that the FD can't move as far inward.

if this works, it's not such a bad idea (for once) for commuters.

I don't have as much 'pre-pm' data, but seeing my power profile and training with the PM totally changed what I thought about my own abilities.

I'd like to think it made me train more efficiently as well.

I followed Fudgy's lead and ordered some fancy, semi-custom shoes. And Paypal offered me the option of six months same as cash. So I am financing a pair of shoes.

On a separate note, I noticed yesterday that all the students have left for the summer. This is now the best time of the year.

Finally, Time Warner Cable decided it needed to install new cables, which means digging across my front yard and tearing up the grass. It's only taken me five years to get a nice, stable lawn mostly free of weeds. It's no big deal to dig it up.

Also, they have to tear up the driveway. Fortunately, my wife saw them start jackhammering and ran out to have them stop so she could pull her car out of the garage first. They were just going to tear up the driveway without telling us. It didn't matter that our cars might have been in the garage and stuck there until they fixed it.

They have no right to tear up your driveway if it's on your property even with a right of way. They can use a power tunneling device which won't disturb the pavement. They won't use it unless you demand it because it costs more than a lunkhead and a jackhammer.

That'd be good to know.

The first 8 feet of my yard and driveway are technically in the public right of way. So they do have the right to do it. I'm just annoyed that they didn't let us know they planned to do it.

In other news, I'm thirsty and need to go to the bathroom, but they shut off the water to our building this afternoon to do some road repair work.

So if you repave your driveway, they will pay for the first 8 feet? I still say if you screamed loud enough they wood have tunneled it.

Trying to cut out all caffeine and most processed sugars in my diet after I crashed and burned energy wise over the past week. Day 3 of no coffee/tea and I'm feeling better. Anyone else cut this stuff out periodically?

I've been on a really bad sugar and caffeine kick of late. When I lost 40 pounds, I eliminated junk sugars, and all but my morning coffee. I say junk sugars because its close to impossible to eliminate it entirely. Now its back into full addiction swing where I am craving junk food.

I have not, but I've heard from friends who have that they had really bad headaches for the first few days. Did this happen to you?

Drink decaf and pretend it has caffeine.

I have not done this - love coffee too much!! And sugar too for that matter.

However, it seems like you should only eliminate one variable at a time (caffeine or sugar) to see which one is messing you up.
