Damn, that's frustrating. Sorry to hear, Shovel. I'm sure that like Teton's friend, you'll come back quicker than it seems right now.

Is that what this is? I thought it was the donuts.

Crashing is unfortunately part of the game. It is what it is. Time to rest and do some recovery rides then back to build. Vacation next week (I always bring the bike), get my finger looked at, then make some informed decisions.

I've seen some deals here and there for 11 speed Shimano tubulars but I can afford to wait for the right one.

Weekend looks terrible due to this tropical storm coming up the coast. I was going to bring my bike up to cape cod but if it's going to rain it may not be worth the hassle.

I might have to buy wheels because the LBS can't find a cassette body for my Cole wheel. Cole has been bought out by another company and they don't seem to give a crap.
I'm thinking about a set of Fulcrum Racing 5 wheels just to get that bike going again. All my other wheels are Shimano, so I've been riding the old bike for weeks.

Went into the local mountains Saturday and one of the young guys is dating an ex-pro woman. The fast guys have to prove they can ride with her, or stay ahead, and the pace gets crazy. At the fuel stop before the big climb (14 miles) I went early since I am slower and tried to keep them from catching me (dumb).
Leg cramps and salt stains ensued for most of us. Good times!

I was on a group ride in SoCal (Swamis), no idea who anyone was, and one woman was pushing another rider, a guy, up a relatively long climb. I should point out that they passed me long before the top and by the time I crested the hill they were gone (for those who do the ride it was after a long descent with a chain link fence next to the road, I think after the stop at the church). Apparently it was a pro triathlete (Michelle? World Champ or something) pushing her boyfriend (that's what one of the locals told me) up the hill.

Pro women are way fast.

I have a Canada Day conundrum. There is a crit tonight that I was planning on racing. This conflicts with my usual Canada day routine of chill beer drinking, but whatever, I can have a brew after the race.

However, now there is a severe thunderstorm warning, so I am starting to doubt whether the race will happen... time to crack a beer? Or should I cross my fingers and wait? Can't decide...

It was set up by a coach on the team, and one that works with us, so unique to us as far as I know.

That's awesome and even better that the more advanced guys are out there sharing knowledge and notes with each other and the newer guys. Seems like that should be a regular (maybe required??) event for USAC clubs...internal monthly/quarterly/semi-annual?? skills development meetings. At the very least, it'd help teams get to know each other and would help improve handling/pack skills.

I just saw a race video from another rider in a race I was in. All I could think is 'holy crap I'm terrible at this'... I was 5th wheel or so, in a perfect position, and just sitting in. A group passed me on the outside and I not only did I slow down and lose my spot to latch on but jumped behind the last rider who then cracked and we fell off to the back. =\

I'm going to do that ride in a few weeks. I wonder if anyone will be available to push me up the hills? LOL

USAC Championship Crit course is kind of bland this year for the Jrs and Cat 1 folk:

2014 USA Cycling Amateur & Para-cycling Road National Championships - A bike ride in Madison, WI

The master's course looks a bit more fun:

Masters Nationals Criterium (1.6K) - Ogden, UT

Well, now that the US is out I can enjoy the World Cup I do feel like this event was a real stepping block in our progress as a soccer nation as opposed to years past.

Somehow the first thing I thought of when I read that was this:

Results wise, its been a wash since the mid 90's (although this is the first time we made the Round of 16 two times in a row). However, there wasn't nearly as much hype then as it is now. Soldier Field alone had 26,000 just to watch the game. Other indicators show we're on our way as well; MLS Attendance is up, there are more US prospects in major academies, the Premier League ratings have doubled. Right now its about garnering interest for the next generation and keeping the talented kids in the sport.

It's good to see yourself racing. There's all sorts of things that you don't/can't realize you're doing. It's especially revealing in terms of things like what you just pointed out. The key is to figure out what you did wrong, how you can fix it, and try to do the fix thing the next time. It's like recording yourself talking or playing a musical instrument. I was really self conscious about recording my playing (violin) but it really helped me improve because I became aware of things I didn't even know that I didn't know about them.
