As crazy as today's stage was ... it still made me want to be doing it again. I get all crazy talking about it to anyone who will listen.
Like the guy in the next stall over today. I don't think he really wanted to hear it, but he wasn't going anywhere. So he had to deal with it.

Wouldn't we all. But we also make that much per day in our real jobs as bike racing is just a hobby.

actually I'm pretty adamant that there shouldn't be prize money for most classes. I'd rather race for medals and jerseys.

I'm a big believer in the use of opiates when needed. They work. They're also highly addictive. But for short term severe pain, as in acute pain caused by injury or post op etc, good stuff. No more than a week or two, then ibuprofen, as you say.

Did my first fast group ride last week. Them guys are fast. Lots of fun. I stayed on the back because I have no group experience. Got dropped when a toddler wandered out in the road and tried to follow us. I hung out with him and watched the pack disappear over the horizon. It happens I guess.

At one point I almost bridged a small gap at a high rate of speed for me. False flat 29 m p h into the wind for a couple of minutes.

Can't wait to do more.

Crazy? The TDF? What's so crazy about doing a century in the rain with cobbles in 3 hours and 18 minutes?

Good to see you back, Sub. I really hope things are great for you and the girls.

Demands are different, and they are both really hard in their own ways.
i think he did over for a bit, and couldn't hack it. thought I heard that in an interview.

Right now I'm in the best spot my life could be in. The girls live with me full time. We have a nice, little home that I'm continually working on to make better and better.
Financially, It's been tough doing it alone but it's worth the struggle. I have done things and been places that I would have never thought I would. It's been a wonderful past two years and I think I'm getting to a place where I could get back on a bike and do it maturely.

Short discussion with the town. Now I can confirm that Bethel will no longer be in Bethel, at least not a Series of any kind. A one day event is still okay.

Well sort of. It would be nice to have it in the "pre-busy" days, i.e. before they zoned the location for retail.

On the other hand it really simplifies my own decision process. I wasn't sure if I should move the Series or not. The First Selectman, who has been extremely supportive of the Series (he rides, I've actually even ridden with him), has made it clear that the retail zoning really makes it difficult to have mass start races.

This year we were down about 30% in terms of number of racers, and that's about the limit of that course with the current number of retail locations (3?). Get a few more and it would be pretty much undoable. If we hit 2010 numbers in terms of turnout, about 50% more than this year, then I think it would be reckless to hold the race in that location.

So overall, for me, not a bummer. Losing some demographic (because where ever I move the Series will be further away from somewhere), that's sort of a bummer, especially since realistically it'll be about 30 minutes further away from NYC.

*edit I just did a Google Maps directions from Westchester County Airport. The location I have in mind is 35 minutes further away.

understandable. glad I won the last race you held there

realistically it'll be undoable for me on weekly basis. I'll probably end up skewing my schedule for a later start or race branchbrook and then head to the mountains.

I repositioned my monitors so no one could see them in my cube.

We are also not supposed to stream any video online. So I wonder how long it will take before IT notices the 2.2mb/s connection all morning. :|

Shelby, NC, my work town, used to host a criterium each year. It hasn't been here in a long while. I remember before even considering racing that I would hang out my office window to watch all these skinny guys with shiny bikes race each other. It was really exciting. Well, I hear word that they want to bring it back here. And last year they started racing in my downtown. Belmont, NC. Look like there's no escape.
