It's helpful to be able to quickly get to roads with limited traffic. The WNR ride shovelhd mentioned has a handful of miles through residential neighborhoods, but pretty quickly ends up next to the Connecticut River on an uninterrupted 9-mile stretch of road with very little traffic. A quick hop over the river, and it's in the woods with, again, very little traffic to worry about. Even so, it's in the boonies in a pretty limited sense. An under-appreciated advantage of southern New England is there are simply way more roads in an absolute sense than you find in a lot of places, so it's easier to find a reasonable route even in fairly populated areas.

There's one stop light that we hit once each way, a merge onto a state road, and a stop sign on the way back. We obey all laws, except for exceeding the speed limit in the final sprint.

First real training this year. I'd be better at this game if I didn't take the winter off every year.

Pyramids. Got a bit ambitious with the numbers. Failed after the second 1 minute. Oh well. Still got some great training in. Tomorrow off and then my first track race of the year Friday. Should be fun.

There are stupid laws about drafting, hand signals, urinating, riding two abreast, putting a foot down at stop signs, and my favorite "bicycle must be equipped with a mechanically actuated bell or horn."

i rode kind of hard (low z3 hr). just under 1570 kj's for 1.5 hours. felt nice. tomorrow will be a 30 minute to 1 hour spin on the rollers, Friday is a tune up day, and sat/sun are races. I'm probably going to get my ass handed to me in the break, but i don't care.

^^^I can attest to him being tall!

No riding yesterday, went out for a special dinner for volunteers at Hamilton Out of the Cold. Fun night of meeting up with our fellow volunteers that did not involve kitchen duties...

Body is reacting to the recovery by craving sleep. Last night I was dead half way through dinner and fell asleep in front of the TV at 9:30pm. Sitting here at work right now and I'm still not awake. Honestly thinking of pulling a Costanza and slipping under my desk

Rode yesterday, did some random a$$ time trial with a bunch of triathletes(unofficial random start off the road). Some dude on a MTB was off the front for a solid 10'ish miles until I finally caught him(felt bad man). Did some 2x20's and just coasted around the area before heading home.

30'ish miles with 700ft of climbing. Weather was good so I was wearin shorts.

Winter argo-yourself

Traveling with work, so shoes are my only athletic gear. I found a deserted industrial complex and ran from 6-7am. 53 minutes of actual run time, which is pretty good for me. It's not a crazy morning, so I have had time for a good breakfast and everything. Wonders never cease.

First ride of 2013. my bike had a thick layer of dust on it since it hadn't been touched early Nov 2012. A 1 hour ride with 25 minutes pushing it up the App Gap here in Vermont.

I was pretty happy with power levels, Just about those of my May 2011 power levels, where I started riding earlier than this year, but even with higher CP10 and CP20 out of the CP25---i.e. I was holding back the first 5-6 minutes or so, because you just never know how you will feel after that long off the bike.

Up until now I've been alpine touring on skis... My views of the past few months, this is actually just a few days ago. Without a doubt, the downhill on skis is more fun than bike. So I always have a hard time giving this up.

Short tempo rain ride today. Very pleasant, even if I was a touch cool at the start.

I did the "race winning intervals" workout from the Coggan book for the first time.

Main set is 5-8 reps of 30"@ 200% ramping to 300%, 3' @ 100-110% finishing with 10" @ 200%.

I find all VO2 intervals to be the least fun as each rep typically feels like 2' of slow, painful death at the end. These trump that nicely by giving you 3 minutes of dying with a final stab in the heart.

Depends on location, for example, riding two abreast is legal in Massachusetts so long as other traffic is not unduly impeded.

Oh I thought you were calling me skinny like a macaroni, like the food the bike is a marinoni delta everyone who I meet on the road know who I got it from because there's only one, Italian, LBS in the city that sells/gets these. Rbart might know who I'm speaking of.

@rbart how so can you attest? Is it the day I saw you at the cafe in dundus?

That's why I just dont clean my bike. Probably why my shifting always sucks and I have to replace chainrings/cassette/chain all at the same time every 5k miles.
