After WRI's, pretty much everything hurts a little. When I do my big gear/short hill workout, I can feel some knee soreness as well. My general cure-all for this sort of thing is fish oil. Does it help? Hell, I don't know.

When I'm on the road, I run. It doesn't take much of that at all to make my knees and hips hurt (in the actual joints as opposed to connecting tissue). This is way more of an issue than anything I do on the bike.

Still really early in the season for me, but just out-did last years best CP10 inside of an 18 minute effort. not saying a ton, because I was a slouch last year, but things are coming together none the less. Still really early

Rode up a mountain in Z3. Did some paceline work with clubmates on the flats/false flats. Threw in some 20" intervals toward the top (5x). Fitness is slowly returning as I ramp up the saddle time. Hoping to be in racing shape by the end of the month. 2hr30min, 43mi, 3700ft. All before 8:30AM.

Yeah, this is the first time I've had evidenceto relate knee pain to a training change. Could be a coincidence with respect to weather changes. At any rate, training goes on unless it gets worse.

When's the next race?

I keep seeing bearded guys at the races but I don't think they're you.

I'm eyeing Red Kite #4 (or Leesville Gap), Watsonville crit, and Sierra Road hill climb as possible 'back at it' races. Watsonville is reasonably close, and San Jose is my home town.

Yup, my left knee. But, I injured my knee when I was 13 pretty severely and I donít think it ever healed properly. The only thing that helps (other than not squatting) is a very good warmup. Too bad to hear that the supplements didnít work for you.

Cool. Fwiw it's actually Red Kite #5.. #4 was a barely-attended TT, apparently.

I only know b/c I'm 3rd in the 2/3's standings and was confused that everyone had four points entries.. so I pinged the organizer and they explaind.

And even more confusing is that their original flyer/website lists the crits as part of the omnium but not the TT, but now they are all included.

Anyway, hope you can get back out on the race scene soon!

Weird. Good work on 3rd, man, that's great. I'll PM ya if I end up making it out there. Work wants to send me over seas that week/weekend, but I'm not all that keen.

I have 7, all of which I'd be better off starting in cat 5 and working my way up..

1 hour tonight on the rollers, feels like I've been off the bike for way to long now. ~1 hour w/ openers tomorrow then 5-6 hours to Ottawa. TT on saturday and RR on sunday.

ZCI on the trainer. Ouch. I tried to back down the wattage some for indoors, thinking maybe towards the 100% of threshold. Yeah, no. More like 90%. All 5 of them hurt, a lot.

Skipped the trainer tonight and rode in the rain. The plan was hill repeats, but had to ditch that since the hill repeat his has a section that has been shaved...It's ok going up, but dicey going down. My wife actually double flatted coming down and after getting the wheels fixed up she headed to the other hill in town. Myself I just did loops climbing the multiple escarpment accesses we have.

ended up with 37.5km and 415m of climbing...Add in the rain, wind and cool temps and it was a good HTFU session...

2x20 attempt on tt bike. 1st 20' = 25.3 mph, 2nd 20' = failure. 6' at 26.0 mph then I quit.

No luck with fish oil either. For clarity, the WRIs have brought on chronic knee pain that lasts at least until the following week's WRI workout.

They aren't getting worse, so I guess I'll do next week's workouts, and then enjoy a rest week.

This reminds me of how much better my joints feel than they did in CO & UT, and why I stopped lifting weights.
When my fit is dialed in and I'm riding everyday, I get very little knee/pain issues. It's when I start taking days off or slacking on the intensity some weeks, or coming off rest weeks that I'll get some tenderness every once in a while. The shorter the intervals the worse, just because they are so much more intense I guess. My latest batch of issues with piriformis or hip flexor or w/e was after 3 days off, 2 days of easy rides, then 2 days more off, then doing vo2 tuesday and threshold wednesday and boom, serious issue the following day.

Yeah, I was hitting 1600W in warmups and 1300-1500 in the opening of the 1' intervals, so that's more strain than I had in a while. I'm wondering if I'll just get stronger and get over it. Next week is my last in this block, so I'll see if the soreness goes away during the rest week's recovery.
