Keep this in mind -- I can get away with hairy legs... you probably can't. Maybe if you move to Boulder.

A couple of my team's jerseys only have two pockets, and another has three very short pockets. Either way though.

This is getting pretty 41

Day off. I am frigging gassed. Rode 4 days in a row for the first time in years and my muscles feel it.

Just keep any Rule 34 stuff out of the 33. Unless you want to go down in a blaze of glory. Could be entertaining for anyone online before the cleanup.

damn, i have not been able to muster the motivation to do my stupid recovery rides lately. been super busy with work and school so a recovery ride often means hitting the trainer. and it's october. made a personal rule for myself i wouldn't touch that thing until november. i'm still getting in my big rides, so it's not a huge deal, but i kind of feel like a ****bag not riding every day.

In between posts I rode today and broke 18min on my usual benchmark climb for the first time since my crash and broken ribs. I'm still 1min off my PR, but still pretty happy with the progress coming back.

Mike: I know the feels, but i personally love recovery rides, they give me a chance to zone out for an hour and just relax.

today i'm looking at 3x20s at 10 o clock at night. Tutoring is fun, and pretty rewarding, but it's amazing how much time it takes up.

i love OUTSIDE recovery rides. on the trainer it just feels like a chore.

3*20s sound a little aggressive for this time of year, no?

OLH I take it? Nice!

I think it took me a good 25 minutes when I did that last weekend, at a z2 pace. I'll have to give it a real shot some time but I'll be happy to break 20' on it.

Also, last weekend I wanted to show that road to the gf so we drove up it.. HUGE MISTAKE!! Almost got ran off the f-ing road (down a ravine) by what I presume was a mad local in their Mercedes SUV, tired of driving tourists and cyclists clogging up the road.

I'll never do that again, that road is bike-only from now on for me.

Pfft. You'll absolutely do that. My first and only time up it (with fudgy) I rode a 19:38 and I'm slow. Well, slower than you, that's for sure.

one of the things i really want to change this fall/next season is ACTUALLY doing recovery weeks, or at the very least doing extended (4-5 days, so maybe keep long/hard efforts on the weekends but chill during the week) rest periods. i tend to get into a "meh, feel alright, guess I can keep training" mindset, which I think holds me back and doesn't let me take full advantage of the training I'm doing.

Honestly, it's no biggie. Doing a stupid slow recovery ride is good for your legs, but I find it's every bit as beneficial to not ride but do a good solid 30-45 minutes of stretching. Foam rolling can be included in that. We spend a lot of our time making our muscles contract. They get shorter and shorter. A good solid stretching session is a fine way to spend a recovery day (IMO).

Hah. I once took my mom on a drive up Kings Mountain, along Skyline and down Pagemill. It was 40-ish miles. I thought it would take an hour in a car. Turns out all those roads suck to drive (if you're not in your lotus, I guess) and take forever.

Same thing. 2 two hours. Wasn't much fun. Dodging angry drivers and trying not to buzz cyclists the whole way.

the first set of deadlines is novermber 1st. if i get into the schools i want to get into, i'll either be hitting chappy up for a) rides to races b) beer and c) training routes. Or i might just be in a corn field in the middle of Indiana . I would like to race collegiate, but if i can't i wouldn't be completely devastated, and would just race p/1/2 in the local fields around my college, and back at home if i come home for the summer.

i'm being very serious when i say take the presence of a cycling club at the school as a very serious factor in choosing where you want to go. enough schools have clubs that choosing one that does is not that limiting and seriously, collegiate cycling is awesome. i've met some of my best friends through bike racing at the collegiate level.

i believe that my top two choices have teams. I know for sure one of them does, i don't know if the other is that strong or alive at all. My top tier choice has been my number one for a very long time, so even though I would love to compete collegiately, if push came to shove i would still end up at my number one (this is of course only if i can get in).

For me recovery days/periods are more about resolving issues and preparing for the next week/training cycle than they are about resting. Catching up on your household chores, work, and family obligations often ends up being more taxing than exercise.

Even though these tasks are draining, I believe they have a net positive impact on long term performance because they relieve chronic stressors and help create a positive training environment. I think "adrenal fatigue" is more likely to arise from chronic psychological stress than it is from one too many intervals - especially amongst people who use exercise to relieve stress.

So forget inactivity during rest weeks, get the crap done that is keeping you up at night and ruining your recovery.

Tahoe today, plan was to do Ebetts Pass and Monitor Pass. Turns out the wife's body is not a fan of riding at altitude. She started noticing as we drove up that her chest was getting a bit heavy and breathing was not easy. We got on the bikes with a couple friends and headed up Ebetts Pass, but by the time we got to the top she really wasn't feeling good. It just wasn't breathing issues, but she was feeling nauseated and a bit dizzy. Figured altitude was really getting to her so we all decided to just head back down the Pass and call it a day.

Didn't ride as long as I would have liked, but it was still an awesome day on the bike. The views were astounding!
