    Maybe it does happen, but I do not like it.
    judging from what you post on here it seems having a powermeter has caused you to focus on ewang numbers without much a focus on developing actual fitness.

    Team ride was as advertized until about 50 miles in and then there was some "testosterone poisoning" with the resulting team mate drama stuff. (Both at fault in my opinion.) Overall pretty much what I wanted for the day. It was a little shorter time-wise (about 3.5 hours vs 4 hours), but a little more intense so it works out fine in the grand scheme. It just means that tomorrow will be an easier ride, but a little longer.

    Skill drills with the team and some indoor coaching with Larry Nolan yesterday

    Freezing as hell 4 hour team ride today. I'm actually starting to keep up with some of the fast guys in the hills now, feelsgoodman. Hwy 9 descent was too damn cold though, I nearly shook myself right off the bike.

    Ok, since I raced ONCE I think it is now appropriate for me to post here.

    I am just happy to say that I am back in the groove. After losing some weight my legs don't feel as powerful as they did by the end of october but at the same time I am on my second weeks of my 3rd training block after a 3 week hiatus from over-exhaustion and knee pain so it's understandable. My zone 2 power average seems to have dropped from 180-190 to 160-170. Not bad considering it I am about 9 pounds less now. My short 1000+ watt bursts are also out the door leaving me with 850w peak power figures.

    I am also back to 10+ hour weeks even with crappy weather on tap so determination is there and my fitness high craze is on. I feel motivated and ready to tackle the on / off season.

    - this one is actually pretty big and not all that well known: do you install your batteries with your bare hands? a bit of oil from your fingers can easily be transferred to the battery, and if this happens it can prevent the unit from powering down as it should, seriously shortening life. next time you install one (not just in a quarq but in any other device), use gloves, a napkin, or just be super careful (wash your hands and handle the battery only by the edges).

    i hope it is something simple like stale batteries or improper handling rather than an issue with the unit. good luck!
    when I click "about" in the powermeter settings on the 810 it says the battery life is "good" but it keeps throwing the stupid signal that my battery is low. I don't get it!

    I normally buy energizer batteries from CVS, nothing special but not the cheapo stuff.

    I definitely just use my hands, thanks for the tip I'm going to try using a towel and such next time I put the battery in!. Thanks again.

    Team Fremont. We usually ride in the south/east bay, but we started from Sports Basement Sunnyvale today.

    I like ygduf strava, everytime I see him climbing he's over 1300 vam lol. I think my best VAM is like 1000 for 20mins.

    Very cold (30s) ride today. Same deal as yesterday: toes started going numb an hour in, even with 2 pairs of socks. Even hands were cold in the gloves. It better warm up soon or I won't be finishing base. 1.5 hours, easy out, ramped up, rode 90% ftp for about 20', ramped down. End of recovery week.

    Also, my gymnasts had their first meet today up in Petaluma. 2nd place team, but they had a bad day individually. They'll do better as they get comfortable with their routines.

    you know about toe covers and oversocks. 2 pair of socks inside the shoe will just restrict blood and make for cold toes.

    I didn't know about those. Worth it? I don't think this weather will last very long... I still think like I'm in Arizona - I tend to just deal with it knowing it will warm up soon, but that won't work if my toes freeze an hour into a ride. How about those wool socks they sell at the bike shop?

    I just recently bought my first long sleeve jersey, and still don't have anything but shorts. Shorts are fine though - my legs don't really get cold.

    I have toe covers, for ~45-65 degrees, and booties for temperatures below that. I couldn’t imagine riding without them now.

    Aaron - Fudgy's right. Get the toe covers and also leg warmers. Your body constricts blood flow to the extremities to maintain your core's temperature, so your toes and fingers are the first to go cold. I was out in those temps Saturday for four and a half hours, and didn't get cold until the last hour or so when I slowed down. Jacket, long sleeved jersey, base layer, long-fingered gloves, leg warmers, booties...some of it doesn't get worn but a few times a year, but you need it.

    Well, I'm in Arizona and I still need shoe covers LOL. I have 2 types of shoe covers. I have the oversock type for moderately cold days and then I have these neoprene shoe covers for really cold days:

    My feet were not cold at all in 30 degree temps on Saturday. The only bad thing is that they are a pain to get on and once on, it's difficult to adjust/tighten your shoe.
    Now, I just need to find a better pair of gloves because my fingers were ****ing frozen!!

    Toe covers are great, as they are about 80% as warm as booties, and you don't need to take them off, so mine stay on from ~December - ~February. On really cold days, I can pull booties over them with no trouble. The toe covers do not interfere with upper shoe adjustment. My shoes have two velcro straps lower, and I never touch those (I leave them loose for blood flow), and a ratchet strap up top. The ratchet strap and the upper velcro are easily accessible with the toe covers in place.

    Fudgy doesn't live where it's cold enough to need everything you can do to keep the feet warm. My booties are good, but I need the extra layers of socks too.

    I just spent a few $$ yesterday on cold weather gear, in the past I always ran in the winter, now I know why (lol). Descending in cold is MISERY.

    Got some neoprene shoe covers, a jacket / vest combo, full leg tights (I'll buy another if they work well).

    My leg warmers kept falling off, and I ended up just taping them to my legs to stay up.
