ill give patched tubes a second chance. i used to patch them up but noticed that rapid air loss and just started tossing them cause it was annoying having to pump it up before every ride. ill see if your theory is correct. thanks for the advice

As for pumping up a tire during a race.. lol! Generally you'll either have a spare wheel or be SOL.
Last few laps, already SOL. Just didn't want to walk back.

As for spare wheel - wouldn't it be faster to change a tube than to walk/run on cleats all the way to the wheel pit? Either way it's gonna take more than a lap. At Early Bird, the director told me the rule is free lap AFTER getting to the pit. Is this true? Can you just change a tube on the back stretch for 2 laps and jump back in on the back instead?

(obviously no one cares at the Early Birds)

Took the day off. Slept 9 hours last night which is very unusual for me...hope I'm not getting sick! I'm toying with the idea of racing this weekend. I have a 50 mile "fun" ride planned tomorrow with some triathlete friends, then there's a Crit on Sunday. I've never done a crit before, and really need to get that monkey off my back. So maybe??

Is there any reason to not do a crit on Sunday?? (As long as you aren't getting sick of course)

Yeah the free lap starts when you get to the pit. You can cut the course, walk backwards on the course (sidewalk ONLY), etc, to get back to the pit.

And free laps generally stop at 6 or so laps to go (8k to go usually?), after that you are indeed SOL.

You (shouldn't!) won't be racing with a pump anyway, so spare wheels are really the only way to go. In a RR where you might go otb you can bring a pump/co2 just to get back to the finish, but in crits you don't want to try to change a tire. Ever.

Fwiw a some of the local crits will have "neutral" wheels (for anyone to use), so I rarely actually bring spare wheels to races.

2x20's today at lunch. The felt so good after the first one I decided to go all out and use the second one as an FTP test. Got to bump up my FTP a few watts as a result, so pretty pleased.

I've been checking the weather forecast for tomorrow morning all day. It's gone from 100% chance of Thunder Storms to 60% chance of Thunder Showers. I guess that's a step in the right direction. I like riding in the rain, but I've got a bad relationship with lightning. Hopefully the storm pushes off enough I can get a good group ride in.

Other than the freak cold weather this week, it has been a pretty mild winter in the South East. I've only ridden in the 30's a few times. Most days have been low 60's to mid 70's. It's not quite as nice as when I lived in San Diego, but not far off.

My favorite part of tiny expensive homes, super long commutes, earthquakes, mudslides, and forest fires in California, is watching it on tv from Austin. (CA born -- so don't judge me)

Ill judge you if I want to, cupcake.

Third week in a row with a crappy Saturday, nice Sunday, and a training schedule that doesn't match. It's just not been a good weather winter this year.

True but I'd rather stick to the plan than change it. It's going well so far.

as long as it's your coach changing it, it's not really changing what's working. inner harmony factors in. just sayin since I've been told such things myself. at minimum it's worth an ask

I understand. Point taken. What makes it something to crab about is that there is a standing club ride on Saturday mornings which I cannot do during the season, and I enjoy riding with those guys.
