Folsom Bike Race Ride. 30 miles with a couple moderate climbs, some rollers, then a fast return to the starting point.

Still frustrated with this ride. I always blow up at the same spot. We open with about 10 miles of rollers at a relatively high pace, then hit a moderate climb (250-ft at 5%). After the hill, we drop down a quick descent then hit a 2 mile segment with 3-4 punchy hills (~100-feet at 5%) and a gradual climb (200-ft at 3.5%) to a regroup point. After the regroup, we drop down a steep descent, climb one last time (200-ft at 3%) and then take a fast downhill section (10 miles at -1%) to the shop.

I'm good over the first climb, but get dropped on the punchy section and end up in a chase group. Not sure if I'm over exerting on the climb or if I just don't recover quickly enough to keep through the punchy section.

Strava segment of the ride with the warmup section removed (~4 miles of flat/rolling terrain):
Strava Segment | Greyhounds
The section where I start to fall off is from mile 11-13 on the linked segment.

Going camping on the 20th for about a week. All training shall cease and resume when done, will be interesting to see what I lose and how quickly I get it back. I'm currently the strongest/fastest I've ever been.

It could be scar tissue. When muscle gets injured the scar tissue does not remove naturally; it stays there. This may impede range of motion, muscle growth and repair, etc. Techniques like Graston and ART remove the scar tissue and help the muscle heal (so long as you don't remove the scar tissue prematurely). You could see an expert for help. I've done it myself for years now (which if you go down that path do some research) and after 2 torn achilles and another tendon tear, probably couldn't cycle without it.

After not riding for 5 days, then a combined 165 miles over 2 days and very little sleep, I slept 13 hours last night and am recovering today and probably tomorrow as well.

Just noticed I'll race my 50th race later this month! Just trying not to think about how much the food, gas and reg fees cost me for 50 races in less than a year. Probably more than my bike.

could be, yeah. to be honest, though, once i let it heal this spring it seemed to be able to handle ~12-14hrs/week just fine. the issue only cropped up again after a string of hard 16-16hr/weeks. my plan right now is to let it heal up again and try to limp through the remainder of the season and explore options like gratson or art in the fall/winter.

On top of the $30+ per race, too. I try not to think about it, but my wife sure keeps track.

It sounds like a classic overuse injury. Gaps in training with big blocks on either side. Back off and smooth things out.

did 3.5 hours today, dropped by fudgy on a climb and rolled around with another teammate.

11.x hours for the week, 700-something TSS, a decent week.

I got pulled over for not staying to the far right on one of our mountain roads. Pretty annoying considering the hundreds of speeding cars and motorbikes on that road.

Surprised. Went out and set a 5 minute PR. I never thought I'd come close to my prior number again. Figured it was an anomaly.

1 hour recover ride, 13 TSS.

Kept cadence around 100 rpm, felt good to spin the legs out.

Wow, you should keep doing that daily until the Masters Pursuit Champs.

It really feels good to break a PR though. I don't believe I ever will again.
