2 hrs of tempo today, first ride of new block. On the way back I gave myself to hammer up torrey pines and give myself a taste of what's in store for tomorrow: the year's first set of 2x20s on fiesta island.

Fortunately for me there were tons of people going up torrey pines at the same time so It was easy for me to keep my HR right around or slightly above my LTHR.
Something tells me that it won't be as easy tomorrow.

1125211 pyramid today. Legs haven't felt this farked up for a long time. Nasty. I was able to beat my 5' power for the 2' intervals and beat threshold on the 5' interval, so matched my usual targets from the past. The 1s just sucked, but I did manage the best average on the last one.

I held 220W (high endurance) for the 5' recoveries too... that never feels good for the first minute.

mattm 02-12-13 02:07 PM

Rode up some hills this morning, it was nice.

caloso 02-12-13 03:20 PM

Running and plyo jumps and stuff.

Fat Boy 02-12-13 03:30 PM

2 hours endurance paced with a young friend of mine who's off to Weissach for the next 8 months or so. It's really cool to see one of the young people you've worked with do well for themselves.

What's your 1' target?

Isn't it? I have a 19 year old teammate who just upgraded to my Cat 3 and I am looking forward to turning myself inside out to help him get points to go higher.

These days I'm shooting for 550W in this workout. I think my 1' power is about 650W right now :(

jsutkeepspining 02-12-13 05:05 PM

weakling! i mean even my ***** ass 1 min is higher :P

valygrl 02-12-13 05:10 PM

V02Max interval fail.

Was supposed to do 5 min @115% then 6x3minute at 120% then 4x2min at 135%, and I didn't do the last sets at all. I couldn't complete the time for the last 3 3-minute intervals, bailed on each them part way through.

Must be doing something wrong. Not sure what. I did these 2 weeks ago on the road on my road bike and completed them. Felt like a mental failure.

I just started training at this intensity - my coach had me doing all longer easier (LT) stuff last year b/c that was my first year actually training. Man these hurt, and doing them indoors on the TT bike with a new/bad saddle makes it even worse.

Someone tell me to just HTFU.

jsutkeepspining 02-12-13 05:12 PM

don;t worry i was struggling on my 8x3's yesterday. I dropped from 117-120% to 112% on the very last one. I just was so mentally tired of going hard (not to mention the tempo work i had after the vo2max intervals :( )

Give us a call in 25 years...

kensuf 02-12-13 07:13 PM

70 minutes with 3 sets of crit intervals.

Big day planned tomorrow after some meetings at work.

Walrus 02-12-13 07:26 PM

2hrs tempo today. Wanted to do 3+ but it started raining pretty hard and the motivation went the first time I saw an "out-route" on my loop. Meh, still quality bike time.

You say this every once in a while. Are you talking about 15' @ 150% / 15' @ 50% ?

HMF 02-12-13 09:32 PM

Working on anaerobic capacity. Did WRI's last Thursday, today I decided to try for something from the back of the TRWP book.

Prescribed: 8x2' @ 130% avg., 2' RBI
Actual: 4x2' @ 130% avg., then a longer break, then another 2 @ 130%

I wanna do this again and put it all together. I needed that break in the middle, but damn 8 seems nearly impossible. Maybe one day.

Alright, I'll give you 20 years to match my best. 821W. Have at it.

jsutkeepspining 02-12-13 09:42 PM

never will unless i have epo or **** like that. i think 821 is like my 45 second max.....

mattm 02-12-13 10:12 PM

w/kg

jsutkeepspining 02-12-13 10:42 PM

well u may do the math. you know my weight fatty :P

edit: at my current weight (i.e after eating non stop for 5 days) to hit the same w/kg for my peak ever 1 min i would need ot produce 25 more watts. **** that would be hard to get!

waterrockets 02-13-13 06:02 AM

My weight at 821W was 183. A year later, I weighed 167 and but could only hit 790W. So 9.9 W/kg and 10.4 W/kg, respectively. How's the math work out? :D

ljrichar 02-13-13 08:23 AM

2 x 20's last night. Trying to do intervals at night with no back light on my head unit is interesting. Have to wait 30 sec to be under a street light to see if I'm staying on target. PE was way high but still hit my numbers.

+1

This is one of the things I miss a lot about collegiate racing (well after my first two seasons): mentoring newer/younger riders.

I would lead one of our weekly "team" rides, and believe me at that point they weren't at all about physical adaptation for myself; I would treat them as easy days and/or do intervals b4 or after. One of my favorite things to do was practice pacelining out in the open flat roads of the Humboldt Bay bottoms.

Also it was always fun to talk strategy with them b4 or after their races, or talk training with the ones who showed some talent and interest in taking it to the next level.
