I hear that.

Vacation Day 1, 2:30 easy. 20 more days to go.

With all the other obligations lining up, I'm afraid the time on the bike may not be quite as epic as previously planned. We're going out drinking tonight, and since I'm a lightweight I may or may not be hungover the next day....

Looking fwd to my 3hr ride today. I'm gonna ride up to my parent's house and spend the day shopping/hanging out with my sister (also best friend). This will be a good day.

I'm shooting for 200w.

Tommorow: 5hrs z2 on the way home, will take various detours. Plan is to keep it under 180w for the first 3hrs, than play it by feel for the last two.

2 hours 40 minutes on the trainer, mostly tempo but with 10 sprints. I hate the cold

rkwaki 12-20-14 03:50 PM

Horrific leg workout followed by 2 hours with my boy changes2008. Fun ride though a little cold. Jumped a few times which felt good. Hit 1100 watts :)
Jumped for a Strava KOM for fun, big mistake as my legs were cooked but managed a 10th overall (tough climb).
Good day...

Me too. I hate the cold more. 2 hours for me today, mixed bag of stuff. Big gear, over unders, tempo.

Did the Saturday race ride, solo break at threshold for 30 minutes, caught by mattm and 2 others about 3 seconds from the sprint line
Rode easy to meet my wife for lunch afterward, threw in a few jumps on the way home.

2:45, 56 miles, 174 TSS

gsteinb 12-20-14 04:26 PM

tour de fred - attacked 3 minutes out and soloed in. figured it would be more sporting than winning the sprint. it hurt.

bmcphx 12-20-14 04:32 PM

50 ft gain per mile today. 3 hours, including a 900ft hill that's 2.3 mi. Picked carefully where to put in efforts and feeling more big improvements in fitness. I may want to race this season after all. I think I could at least be pack fill instead of otb.

Like it. No gifts, even to Fred.

TMonk 12-20-14 04:36 PM

I felt very strong today

TheKillerPenguin 12-20-14 04:39 PM

2.5hrs with the team(!). Summery 28 degrees out. 95tss. "Won" the why-is-this-happening-in-december final acceleration that always happens on rides like these, doing a seated power thingus. Post-ride: they ate donuts, I ate oatmeal and tried to hide my envy.

Ygduf 12-20-14 05:03 PM

3.5 hours for me. Muddy/wet group ride while I'm about 85% from some illness. It's much harder when you have no top end after 15 seconds.
@mattm got yelled at, so that's funny.

hack 12-20-14 05:11 PM

30 mile ride to river ride
40 miles of river ride and I rode like a total *****
30 mile ride home

5 hours, 280 TSS, 3200 kJ

Dude yells at everyone!

mattm 12-20-14 05:55 PM

5.5 hours, 344 TSS, 3477 kJ today. Did a century by accident!

Woke up early and got in an hour before Spectrum, then met up with team dudes and hit the ride hard. It seemed faster today than previous weeks, but timing/patience and some nice leadouts by team dudes and a few others let me take all of the (major) sprints on the ride. A guy got mad that I sprinted for the final sprint, what can ya do!

Then tacked on another hour with team dudes, then tacked on another hour on top of that. Felt surprisingly good at the end.

Wasting my time riding 60 or so miles with a long retired low level pro today.

Drank a small Coke half way through.

It was great.

furiousferret 12-20-14 07:12 PM

Wife's birthday last night so we stayed out and didn't get home til late; missed the Saturday hammerfest. Instead did 4 hours, 2 hours of z2+ with some 10s efforts. 1900 KJ's.

Had a rest week, now I feel weak, I can't sustain my efforts as long as I should. Hopefully its just a today thing, and not a trend. On the plus side my 'weak' is now faster than my old 'strong', as I set a ton of pr's.

Hermes 12-20-14 07:26 PM

2 hours of tempo/threshold/VO2max on the Canada road TT course. Set a PR on the BtC leg on the second lap.

Bridrider 12-20-14 11:25 PM

I'm Wondering if I could get some advise on how to improve my group riding abilities. Here is the situation.

I have a ton of power and can chase down almost any breaks that I've ever tried to chase. However, after I put this power down, I can't keep up manageable power to sustain the break, getting dropped by the break.

What training can I do to improve this? Is this staining my VO2Max? Am I just popping cause i'm going into the red?

I don't have any data to go on as I don't have a HR or Power meter.

mattm 12-21-14 12:37 AM

I wish I had a ton of power.

There are lots of ways to look at this, but I would focus on recovery. Go through the workout sticky for ideas. What you want to do is be going reasonably hard, then go harder for a short period, then drop right back into the previous level with no break, not even a second or two. It forces you to recover under stress. My favorite workouts for this are tempo with sprints and over unders.
