Comment on what to wear.
I bought lobster gloves way back but found them too hot for me. I still have the set - not using gloves more than a few times for 20 years means they're not worn after 20 years. Only at the absolute coldest temps did they help (and then other parts of my kit failed to keep me even semi-warm so overall I wasn't happy). I'm talking 10-15 deg on the road, below 0 for off road. Above that and my hands got so hot I had to vent them while I was riding (i.e. take off the gloves here and there, and I think I ditched the gloves completely towards the end of a cold race).
With feet I'm good, once I get going, with booties and regular shoes/socks, down to about 25-30 degrees. Rides over 2 hours in those temps, not so good. They turn on and off at 105 degrees or something so they shouldn't get too hot.
I got the sole heaters for the off chance that I'd go out in 25-35 degree weather; specifically I got them so that if I was racing at 25-30 degrees I'd be okay. If I was training I could just stay inside. Race day is race day, and I'd rather spend energy moving an extra couple ounces of sole heaters than trying to keep my feet warm.
Of course this means I have to go out on a 25-35 degree training day or three with the sole heaters, to make sure they don't screw up my position etc. I learned, while I was trying to sell my size 42 winter Sidis, that my "too small" winter Sidis were size 41, not size 40 like I thought. I wear a size 41 so I figured a 41 would be good, but for some reason the 41 winter shoe was just too small. What this all means is that I'm going to venture out in the size 42 winter shoes with the heaters in them, see how the fit/etc work.

Out of curiosity, how thick are the sole heaters compared to a pair of thick socks?

took the cross bike out for one last rip in the woods yesterday before bastardizing it into a commuter. hadn't ridden trails in a while and wanted to enjoy the weather, but wasn't really feeling a road ride, so it was perfect. forgot how much of a different workout it is though. now it's time to mount the 32c slicks and fenders. come at me, winter.

Took my son skiing yesterday. Kid is fearless. Not reckless like I was at his age, but more methodical, as in he'll stop at the top of a steep pitch and plan out his turns and then take his time and make them.

Build started today.
6x5' up a local hill. 2 hours total, 150 TSS.
First 5' go was too hard but was 5.02 w/kg, best I've done since last year. Off to a good start!

My ass is sore. Lifting is hard. I did something like 13-1/2 hours on the bike plus lifting last week though!

Derailed.
Whirlwind Christmas trip up to Wisconsin to see family. No time to do any type of workout. Usually I at least get to the Y a few times in the week. Just too much going on this time. Also ate more than usual . Hoping to get back at it, at least a little, tonight.

I'm off the bike for a bit. Went to put Junior in the center-mounted car seat and my back gave out on me. I could barely get out of the car. Junior knew something was up because when I told him to go back inside he ran back into the house without asking to go for a walk first.

6 days with no workouts.
Thursday through Sunday in AZ visiting family for christmas, and a stomach virus was going around. I am usually able to avoid these things, but I stayed up til 4:30 am on Saturday, and ended up sick yesterday. Still feeling a bit off today. Hopefully I'm feeling good enough to go for a ride tomorrow, and feel out if I'm gonna do the new years day hill climb.

9 hours commuting from Sacramento to Redlands, it was snowing over the Grapevine. Traffic was slow, took 3 hours to get 70 miles from LA to home. Being in the 30's, pitch black, and raining, I'm going take defer my training until tomorrow. The snow level is pretty low so it should be a fun ride.

Ha; I'll need more like 60' power for some of those Cascade climbs.. but decent 5' power can't hurt!
At any rate I'm happy to return to and possibly surpass my previous form.

I think my back has healed enough to resume training. A little over a week ago I complained here about re-injuring my back; 7 days off the bike and lots of stretching/foam rolling and I'm a lot better.
Yesterday, I was able to ride z3 for an hour with a few surges,
Today I rode 3hrs at a high z2.
Tomorrow I plan on 90min of z2/3, with a couple VO2 climbs just to test the waters and wake up my body.
I'm going to continue to play it by ear for the rest of the week, and keep the total hours around 10 (was in the mid-teens pre-injury). I'm confident that I will be able to resume training as per usual next week.
Nice.

How did you get injured, was it from lifting?
