It's a definite possibility. The first breakaway I was in this year was with @Hls2k6 and I was totally up in my own head about being able to be up there until he yelled at me to keep going full-tilt. Basically starting from square one back in March.

Gramercy 06-03-15 12:16 PM

I'm pretty sure TKP is going out on Friday nights and meeting SUNY New Paltz girls, taking all of his watts. But then he's fresh during the week during training.

shovelhd 06-03-15 12:18 PM

The oxygen tent helps. Freaks the girls out though.

well this turned into an unplanned rest week. was off the bike monday and tuesday for work. really really wanted to get up this morning to train, but by the time I got home last night it was ~12:30 and although i managed to get out of bed this morning, I could barely keep my eyes open so figured it was better to get some more sleep. i'm just wiped out from the last week of life. will get a workout in tomorrow, but then I'll have to chill for the next few days as Sunday is a pretty hard road race.

Totally unmotivated to ride. I rarely feel this way, like really rarely, so it's a bit odd.

Busy listing stuff for sale, communicating, etc. Some bike stuff (size S TCR frame anyone?) but mainly other stuff like new parts for cars we no longer own. I keep finding more things to sell, take some pictures, create a listing. Also trying to get some stuff done around the house. To me this, along with looking after a much more interactive Junior, is more important than riding.

To put things in perspective I don't even know if there was a race yesterday, I didn't want to go regardless.

Last night I said to the Missus that I won a race, placed in a race where I never placed before (at least in the current direction), and maybe that's enough for me for the season. Weird.

yeah but, as your bring them inside and then spend a few minutes assuaging fears that it's a prop for a scene out of dexter, the pure O2 starts to make them a little euphoric...

At times like those I take a break and focus on something meaningful. Longsjo? Lime Rock? Danbury?

bike racing: where you can win a p12 RR and cross the line after the photographers have gone home, the promoter is packing up the tent, and literally no one is waiting around to watch. You and your teammates are happy for 15 minutes, but when you line up for the next race your prior result is basically forgotten.

I think many of us are kind of at that point in the season. I was feeling this way about 2-3 weeks ago, and a recovery week coupled with a night out with the lady and I was back in the game mentally. If you haven't taken a bit of a reset you're likely 4-5 months into hard training and racing at this point assuming you started ramping things up in January or February.

Hls2k6 06-03-15 01:14 PM

That's a little embarrassing that I did that, especially since I'm criticizing someone in another thread for being the pack coach!

I've been on your wheel in a couple of breaks this year now. It hurt every time. There is no issue with fitness or ability to use that fitness in a race situation. None.

That process alone is the biggest hurdle for me when it comes to getting rid of stuff. As a result, I have way too many bike frames just lying around at the moment.

So much going on. Multiple thread house stuff (clearing bike stuff is one aspect of a pretty major house reorganization effort), Missus/Junior going on a trip, the job, etc.

After Nutmeg, this Saturday, I don't know what I'll do next. I work this Saturday (Pie Ride), next Sunday (White Plains), then start work. Tokeneke RR and Silk City Cross for the other events I'm working this year.

Hah. I could probably use a drink, haven't had one since sometime during the Spring Series. I have maybe a dozen drinks a year, it might be time for a second one.

I avoid doing P123 races exactly for that reason :) Heh. Seriously, often the hardest races around here get witnessed by the fewest spectators. In my Series it's definitely like that. At least the second last race gets the last racers all watching.

Yeah. Started Dec. I'm 40 hours short of my 2014 total (116 hours so far in 2015, 158 hours total in 2014). I can't believe I did about 450 hours in 2010, and I can't imagine doing those kinds of hours for years.

I get into a roll. Been listing pretty steadily for the last day. It's like sales, right? You list 10, maybe sell 2. Keep listing, keep selling. I've listed 10 items. One is gone. Two have very interested parties (meet up time/date/place already determined).

I listed two of the three frames I have that I don't want, the 3rd I think I'll send to a friend whose son just outgrew his 24" wheel road bike. Keeping another 2, plan on rebuilding them basically as Throwback Thursday type bikes (1989, 1985).

I think I'm finally going to list my Jets, I rode the Bastognes on that hellacious club ride last week and they were fine. The Bastognes loosened up over 3 years, I tensioned/trued them up but hadn't ridden them. Now that I know they work the Jets, which were relegated to being spares, become salable.

I'll post them all here in the classifieds, I just hate shipping big things (even though I have 3 wheel-specific and 2 frame boxes just in case I needed to ship this stuff somewhere).

We were happy for like 30 minutes at least after your Knights Ferry win!

Plus I see those funny "podium" pics (on a train) on my Apple TV screensaver all the time, reliving the moment.

Ask me how I know. I have found that in golf, tennis, football, skiing and cycling that I have to try to simulate mentally race situations in my mind when training. Hitting power numbers is not enough. I love to train and many times have great training sessions but not so hot racing sessions considering my training results. Racing for me, creates some anxiety and mentally, I can defeat myself before I start while some athletes crave competition but hate training.

Try to visualize the race situation with competitors with less focus on power per se when training. In other word, try to make training more like racing and get your mind to really like the situation and visual yourself on the next race course having success. When I golfed in tournaments, I would warmup on the driving range and imagine playing the first few holes of the course.

I asked my wife what she thought about when motor pacing at track. She said, she visualized herself at a world championship riding for the win. Maybe that is one of the reasons she is 3 time national pursuit champion. What was I thinking about...god this is hard...but I am hitting speed and power targets. I think hers is better.

IMO, the connection between racing and training is a problem for many athletes and much of it is mental but that does not mean it is not real. YMMV

You sound like me on racing and anxiety or just because I only have 4 races under my belt. I train hard and always fighting to pull hard on Saturday group rides. One of my friend craves competition but gets dropped on saturday group rides.

So true!
I've done a couple of races this season where we were the last race of the day and they shortened the time of our race because they were running late/it was hot/everyone that was left wanted to get home. They always act like they are doing us a favor and no doubt some of the ladies felt that way, but I'm like I paid for an hour race and I need all of that hour!

Naw dude, it was more of an attaboy than anything and it was the right call. I was easing off because I didn't think I had the power to help snap the elastic and you were basically yelling "you're doing good, keep going, don't ease off."

SCNCA is starting to put other categories after the p12...sucks for us

Weights today, the gym at my work has totally different machines than the ones near my house, I can do 135 single leg presses and the other only 95.

Also, waited 20 minutes for a dude to get off a machine and then watch them jump on the last machine I need to do.....

http://giant.gfycat.com/TalkativeOrnateHeron.gif

Also, I get nervous before races and it may affect my power; when I surfed if the waves were big I'd puke before paddling out. Not quite as bad with cycling and doing so many competitive group rides really helps with it.

shovelhd 06-03-15 03:32 PM

I can't wait to get back into the gym. Next week.

It's true. I was being harsh. I'm still pretty psyched that you won at Red Kite before you got hurt!

add this one to your Ygduf podium rotation. I like it! http://i.imgur.com/dTg7dcml.jpg

And Dean got 3rd in p12, so relativisticly, I also got 2nd in p12.

OK, for real. Why?

I just did a race where p12 was in the middle, there were lots of people to watch, it ended at 1pm, I got to use my best legs in the p12 race where I need them and still race twice, and the world didn't end.
