Bonus Ride, got home early. 2 hours, 110 tss, 1200 kj's.

Tomorrow; going where there isn't much air.

Grumpy McTrumpy 07-07-15 04:58 AM

Beijing?

revchuck 07-07-15 06:26 AM

Recovery ride on the TT bike last night. Trying to stay aero at 110 watts is tough.

mike868y 07-07-15 07:21 AM

another easy ride today. hate taking 2 recovery days in a row, but I needed it...still wrecked from sunday.

hubcyclist 07-07-15 08:18 AM

Think I'm going to set up in the dining room and ride the trainer today by the AC. Too many work calls to make getting out worth the effort

TexMac 07-07-15 09:27 AM

30 easy after 4 days off.. the wind din't want to cooperate so made me work harder than i wanted to.

aaronmcd 07-07-15 10:25 AM

Legs still a bit stiff from Sunday this morning but did my usual 4' hill intervals and felt fine. Followed up with commute, recovery drink, coffee, and a cup of greek yogurt mixed with a mushy banana and mango granola.

aaronmcd 07-07-15 10:27 AM

My bananas don't seem to like travel. They are always fine at home, but the day I take a few to work they turn brown. Still taste good though.

grolby 07-07-15 11:11 AM

FTP test, and my Garmin ate the file. GAH. Consulted with my coach and we decided to go with the NP I recorded for the test interval on the Garmin on the way home. If it's wrong, I'll figure it out soon enough. So, new FTP set at 248 for now.

That's really good for a dude that weighs 30 kilos.

Heh. More like 57. I'm still not 100% sure it's not too high, it almost makes me wish there was a 1 hr TT I could do to try and go an hour at that wattage. Almost. But coach said "set it there," so that's what I'm doing!

hubcyclist 07-07-15 12:56 PM

Because I hate myself, I did an indoor 20min test, even riding directly in front on my window AC along with my big fan didnt ease the suffering.

I wouldn't trust the number for anything anyway. Your body limits how high it will allow you to push your core temp before it starts throttling effort.

bostongarden 07-07-15 03:23 PM

The last six days have felt like the Summer of George: 49.3, 49.4, 45.6, 54.6, 56.3, and 64.9, and 10,500+ feet of climbing.

Nice - what make/model?

Although I'm a fair bit larger than you (70-72.5kg and 180cm), I'm also small for a sprinter, and have earned nearly all of my upgrade points and results through sprinting.

You may find, like me, that courses with features that lower sprinting speed suite you well - hills, false flats or even just strong headwinds to sap some of the speed off . I'm not as good at the long, drag-race style sprints, but can be very competitive in the aforementioned situations.

I got one of those Stages DA 7900 arms when they were on sale. It seems consistent enough, but it's dropped out a couple of times mid-ride, each for about 15 seconds.

And you're totally right about the course style. My best result was a bunch sprint at the end of a course that featured a decent little climb and some wind. I'll fancy myself a "Rocky Mountain sprinter" ;)

It's hard to say whether I should focus on my strengths or my weaknesses. I'll continue with both. In the 3's, anything can happen.

Yeah, according to trainerroad, I did 260 for 20mins, for an FTP of 247, so it's definitely in the ballpark of what I've observed with a real power meter during a race and time trial last month (246np for race and 252 np for time trial). it's an apple to oranges comparison, but maybe I'm one of those consistent both in and outdoors

Or maybe Trainerroad reads high.

revchuck 07-07-15 03:57 PM

Spoil sport.

TheKillerPenguin 07-07-15 03:58 PM

1.5 easy. That last half hour is soooo clutch.

I know like, nobody that produces the same power indoors as they do outdoors. It's weight lifting versus boulder tossing.

cool, good luck!

I'm a three too, have been for a few years. I'm just now focusing on getting my 2 upgrade - although the season has had some setback, I'm still in the game. So it goes.

and good luck to you in your upgrade quest. I upgraded earlier this year and am feeling pretty cozy in the 3's.

rando question: the easiest way for me to do a 1min interval is to do a lil standing sprint into it, ride hard until 30 seconds, more gas, at 40 seconds go all out, and 50 seconds full out sprinting emptying the tank. Is this totally wrong? Should I just find out what my target wattage is and try to hold it steady? Are both methods valuable?

Went down hard 2 blocks from my house. My fault. Both tires flatted and didn't have enough air....took it easy for 40 miles of descending then hit a turn at about 25 and the clincher came off. My crash card on the 33 finally came up.

My massive quad took the brunt, and I can kinda walk. Only me or Griepel could have walked away from that. Elbow is all tore up, wrist tingles, and I had some wooden object in my thumb that looked like a toothpick. Bike is in the shop now....looks okay..
