This is my guess. Not so much from volume, but overall training stress.

That or it was a one-off bad day. It happens.

Another flat today, grrrr!! On Saturday, I had my first flat in about a year. Ah, the rubber was due for a change. So, I put on new tires on Sunday -- a brand and model that I hadn't used before, but with glowing reviews in a variety of sources. Lengthy ride, all good. Monday: short ride, all good. Tuesday: front flat. Wednesday/today: rear flat. Fortunately, tonight, I was within a mile of home when it happened. I was less than pleased -- putting it mildly -- so, I stood up, put all my weight over the front wheel and rode the rest of the way home. I know, not the best thing for the rear tire and perhaps the rear rim. I was in no mood to change another flat on the side of the road; and the clouds above were very dark; I sensed the potential for getting soaked while changing the tube. I wanted no part of that. I like the feel of the tires. I hope it is just bad luck. Vredstein Fortezza Tricomp 23s if anyone is curious. My typical ride is Michelin Krylion, which have always been good overall and tended to last 4-7k miles with hardly any flats. However, the Vreds do feel better.

Other than that, extremely enjoyable 65 mile, 2500+ feet elevation, ride. I threw in some good efforts on several climbs to mix in some intensity, and I responded well. I even got the 4th best time of the year and 14th best of all time on a punchy double climb Strava segment near the end of the ride :-). Hey, I'm using Strava until I get the battery replaced in my SRM.

Hill Repeats, the intervals aren't perfect and I should probably go the other way around since the descent is longer than the climb....

3x2m Intervals (2m Rest)
3x6m Intervals (6m Rest)

Dropped chain mid-sprint today on the hammer ride. Hit a bump while going all-out/out of the saddle = not fun!

Chain wrapped around the rear der. but didn't break it.. finished the ride, but realized afterward the chain is a little twisted.

Stayed upright at least.

Currently shopping for a new chain, maybe a whole new groupset; been riding this one for 3 years and it's seen its fair share of crashes and whatnot.

Glad you stayed up. Last time chain skipped mid sprint I ended up sliding on my ass at 30 something mph. Still have no idea what happened.

Matt - Glad you stayed upright!

FWIW, 5800 105 feels better than 7900 DA on my bikes, and you can get it from the UK for <$400 shipped.

I'll have some 6800 available soon.. from my TT bike. (<500 miles) cranks which are 170mm 53/39.. FD and RD.. no brake levers well because the group is from the TT bike.

I really hate to say it, but Phoenix is not a bicycle utopia. I'm surprised there are as many riders there as I saw!

Training status: maintenance/rest for Hilltowns. Back is still basically effed from crashing 2 1/2 weeks ago and I've felt like ass this week in general. Not sure what I have left in the tank, but there's some additional solid off the bike time calling my name after Saturday.

All very true.

I don't mess with anything not spelled Campagnolo.

Not Super Record mind you, I'm no doctor or lawyer or Cat 5..

Oh well. I was going to suggest Di2 so that I could live vicariously through you. Regardless, check out Merlin Cycles.

A bit sore from racing yesterday, did the Palo Alto Morning Ride. Hurting most of the ride, only took one pull. Then move up for the sprint and the legs magically cease hurting, spin off the front around 40 seconds out, no one on my wheel. Finally about 10 seconds out one guy catches me solo and sprints ahead. But I started the ride at the back and got the Strava KOM!

you have to link to your rides or put your strava in your sig. I want to go look, but not dig through the terrible UI to find something from 6am!
