92 miles with my peeps. Good stuff. It threatened to rain all morning, but held off until about an hour after I got home.

Same here.. I am going to race in 2013, I'm actually very excited for my first real racing season, but it's incredibly hard to hop on the trainer, it's so depressing that I actually can't force myself to ride it even for 1 hour. I'm going to get killed in every race I do. Good luck to you though, motivation wise!

Three hours solo, half of it in cold rain.

Some HTFU points acquired no doubt.

Committed to torturing myself for at least 90 minutes before work tomorrow. The only question is inside or outside.

what's the saying? oh yeah..."if you think you cannot, you won't. if you think you can, you might."

i don't think there is a soul in the world who prefers riding on a trainer to riding outdoors; however, it is a reality for many of us. if you've committed to racing in 2013 (great!), why don't you imagine what it is going to feel like when you are getting dropped in your early races. seriously: take a few moments to really visualize this.

perhaps that will give you some motivation to hop on the trainer when you're not feeling like it. the guys who are faster than you are sucking it up.

if you are not doing so already, consider doing trainer sessions with intensity. i can understand your feeling of boredom; riding along without specific purpose on a trainer does that to me.

think about what you want; if you want to do well and don't take this time, don't complain about lack of results next year.

now get on that bike and pedal!

Great advice...

You need to ride with a purpose on a trainer. Just getting on and spinning the pedals is so difficult for anyone, but getting on with a defined purpose makes the time go by much faster. Also, remember it's tough for all of us. I know that when I start my indoor workouts that there will be an adjustment period. It usually takes me about a week or two of solid training before I get into the swing of things. I started back on the trainer last week and it was shear heII. I had just finished a nice block of week and was doing a recovery week. The legs were sore, the mind was not focused and the workouts sucked. This weekend the real work started and Saturday hurt, but Sunday I felt better. It still hurt and was tough, but things were flowing better. Feeling more natural you would say. I know that as this week progresses things will only improve and by January I will once again be doing my 2.5-3hr trainer sessions. These are sessions that I look as insane right now, but will be the norm then.

Baby steps, it's all about baby steps...

Saturday: 3.5 hours with a group ride in the middle
Sunday: 4.5 hours endurance

This week is a rest week before my vacation. Next week I will be renting a bike and be doing quite a bit of riding. Needless to say, I am quite excited to get out of dreary New Jersey and ride in the sun.

Sunday: 4.5hr w/ sitting in during group ride in the middle, the rest endurance

Time to rebuild the power lost during last season. I had great early season sprint but dropped too much weight and rode/raced all summer with super high cadence. My climbing ability went crazy but I lost more power than I expected.

Every training ride was Z4-Z5 and I was not taking in nearly enough calories and that beat my body down too much. I am now varying my workouts and resting smarter. Looking for a coach too...

Time to slow down cadence and torture the legs all winter.

90' z2/z3 commute on the fixed gear. These rides are good; they just need to be longer but unfortunately I'm lacking the organization and motivation to leave the house at 5:30am.

Started BrBa season 4 on the trainer for 45' this morning. Good episode, and got to seem some artful skillz with the utility knife. Gus doesn't just hire out all his dirty work.

At lunch, 45' of SST with a teammate. Went a lot faster than I'd imagined we would go.

Yesterday my wife and I headed out for a hilly ride for 90 minutes, and that was fun. In the afternoon, 120 minutes of soccer.

it's kind of funny. i always resist the trainer, but then after a couple of sessions i find i really get in the groove.

i guess if i were put in prison eventually i'd wake up and say 'ok, this is my reality--how do i make the best of today?'

there are actually many positive things about training indoors; it is very time efficient, there are no stop lights/signs, no cars, nothing to interrupt an interval...very easy to maintain pacing, no need to worry about clothing in the winter, etc.

one can choose to focus on the positive aspects or the negatives.

I always tell myself about next year and that I know 100% that I'll get dropped and will hate myself for doing so and then end up thinking back until now that I couldn't just hop on the darn trainer for a couple hours. It does help a decent amount as well, expecially after watching a documentary called "A ride with George", it's about George Hincapie and at one point shows that he has a poster on his wall with writing that reads the races he wants to do good in next year, and his feelings towards them for some motivation. Pro's do it to.

This is truely a great documentary, they interview him on a bikie ride, and ask personal questions that you've never heard like, "what is your favourtie colour?" It's awesome, I definitely recommend this to anyone when you have the time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vj_qyxWfdQ&feature=plcp

I have a coach and some of the rides consist of 2.5 hours of just riding at 75%.. those are really the only ones that rip my motivation level to the ground. Intensity does bring some thinking and pain involved which keeps the mind focused, therefore less bordem.

Thanks a ton for this, it really helped !

Ya the only problem is that I have some rides that are 2-2.5 hrs long of just spinning, that's the really killer. The only times that are good for that is when a good tv show is on. Everything will be fine for the next 3 weeks because I have the next 2 weeks of pure strength/endurance, and sprinting rides, only 2 boring rides that will actually probably be nice consider the amount/intesity coming up. And then there is one week off so I could adjust to what I feel like doing Thanks for the advice!

Honestly, most of my riding is on the rollers once school starts, and it gets dark earlier, no other time.

Here's some motivation for you:

I'll be going to Afghanistan. And I'll be riding as much as I can on a god damned stationary bike. Watching movies on an iPad, with an assault rifle and plate carrier leaned up against the bike, as the world carries on without me.

So, please, get your happy ass on the trainer, and suck it up.

I just finished all of BB on netflix, now I have 120+ episodes of Miami Vice to re-live. That should take about 2 years.

DOK - when are you heading over? Stay safe and thanks for your service.

High school? I feel the same, getting home at 3:30, getting dark at 5, it does suck.
