More hill repeats last night, then a stop at the cafe for a pint (after dinner of course)...

You would have thought I would sleep like a rock, not the case. Today is going to be interesting at the office, good thing it's Friday!

Yep and yep. I think it would have gone faster if I'd have found a way to bump some serious volume for 8 weeks or so, but it's not high enough on the priority list. I was taking the 150K(?) miles I have in my legs, and how that's enabled me to race pretty well on 5-6 hours/week. The appendix rebooted a lot of that 2-decade base.

I do think I can bump volume for 3 weeks this winter, on the trainer, so I'll see if I can commit to waking up super early 3x/week to add to the lunch rides during my next base block.

I'm trying to decide now if I should pump out one more build block to take advantage of my inertia, or just shut it down and get back to a couple more base blocks. I guess I should push it up again, as I don't think it's a peak yet, but I don't want to get greedy on good legs and fubar next season.

I'm never mixing nacho cheese and doritos when I get home after work ever again.

And never buy that cooked whole chicken from walmart. I'm pretty sure they dipped it in a bucket of butter before putting it in the oven....

nursing tweaked hamstring for the next couple of days, but have the following plan:

October, November, and 1/2 December: Base build with occasional higher paced group ride (~1 per week)
1/2 December and January: Begin building speed via intervals and probably kick up higher paced group ride (~2 per week).

Start racing early late Jan/early Feb

Yeah?

3:20 tonight. Not hard at all because I couldn't go harder than "really easy". Totally full day means a tired bike rider at night.

I hope it's a good plan, since that's roughly what I'm doing - except for the fast group rides during base.

Right on. I came into 2013 with no base and really no training, so hoping something that looks like a plan will make for a fun 2014.

Regarding the quicker group ride, it helps keep me interested and motivated as well as getting to know more local folks.

A few weeks into the offseason, right on cue, my back starts acting up. I'll have to slow down a little bit on the core stuff even though I didn't start off really hard.

2hrs of whatever coming right up, will prob be z2/3.

starting next week, i plan on doing 1x 5-6 ride/weekend in preparation for el tour de tuscon charity ride that family friend invited me to. between now and then ill just stick to my 1 monster ride on the weeknd and 1 or 2 2hr z3 rides/week in between.

consistent, organized base training wont start ill dec for me. lots of tempo and 20's, 5-6 hr rides will become 3-4

3 hours of z2 (probably a lot of z1 too) again today. Holding actual z2 is more work than I remember!

Page Mill/Skyline/Portola loop, great day for riding.

Only downer on the ride was passing an intersection where a cycling was recently killed, seeing the flowers.. damn.

Fitting Thursday evening (Retul). Saturday went out for 2 hours solo, ended up being 1 hour, the new position feels fast and natural, but right now it's slow and kind hurts my neck. It'll get better, just have to give it time. Also started my core workouts on Friday, yikes, I'm sore. This is definitely gonna help. That plus increased flexibility in the spring and a new position, should be nice, if I actually keep riding through the winter.

Almost 5hrs of endurance with my wife, got in close to 145kms with me providing the draft. Trying to get her to buy into the volume makes you stronger way of thinking.

Did about 3.5hrs of Z2 with lots of climbing before I move. Every hill I saw, I went up! Going to miss this place but will not miss the weather.
