Redlands Training Crit.

Got dropped with half the field early but put in a ton of work on the chase. Close to max number in 5-20 minute watt ranges, which is damn good considering this is my 3rd hard day of training in a row.

Contested the sprint on the last lap, which I never get to do because I'm usually too wiped out. Another good sign. It was the second pack, and only 10 of us but it was fun blowing by everyone!

No. You might have a more aggressive position than you're built for. Also, look up with your eyes first, and your head second.

I'll get it on longer (4+ hour rides), but still not more sore than my legs.

sometimes. I tend to spend a lot more time in a race at a deep tuck than I do on any training ride.

After rides on the TT bike, my neck and shoulders are sore.

Sac River Ride last night...I need a recovery week, my legs were hurting. Still tried to mix it up by chasing down breaks, getting into a break, etc. Just didn't have the energy to really make the last break of 4 stick and had to situp. Fun ride though.

I bailed on the Airport Ride last night. I'm doing Winters on Saturday and need every last W in my legs. Just did a mellow suburban exploration ride instead. Openers this afternoon.

I think I've lost some flexibility since I got fitted to this bike.

Probably a smart move. Either the pace was quicker than normal last night or my legs are in need of a break. Also, the sprint down San Juan got a bit sketchy with two cars headed west bound and guys not really wanting to move over to give up the wheel they were on.

First physical therapy session last night, it was less useless than I expected.

Range of motion is about 75% of it was, working back to 100!

Yup. Collarbone, 5 ribs, some vertebrae back in July. Been in a sling up to this Wednesday.

Now I'm free to ride, just not free to crash yet.

I usually associate damaged vertebrae to paralysis, or some kind of impairment. is that something you had to deal with?

Damn. I'm really glad my collar bone wasn't snapped and they didn't need me in a sling. Glad you're feeling better.

Vertebrae fracture does not mean paralysis or impairment. I'm healing 13 of them right now and was walking around the hospital within a couple of weeks of the accident.

No, luckily. My vertebrae fractures were relatively minor - some compression fractures (two vertebrae pushed together and crunch a tiny bit) in the lower back, and a few "spinal process fractures" where the wing-thingies that hang off the vertebrae were broken, but not in a major way.

No pain in the back, mostly the ribs up to about two weeks ago. And of course the shoulder after surgery..

they need to make these, but like a back pack that'll protect your back and shoulders too

Having crashed twice this season (one knocked me out of riding for two weeks and the other was quite minor), I'm surprised there isn't a greater interest in some minor body protecting gear. Nothing over the top that would impede performance, but something for the hips and back.

I guess it'd be less aero and would go against the HTFU mantra though.

I'd rather wear something on my back that would auto inflate to protect my head and torso than a helmet that weighs just as much buT also traps heat inside my head. But I suppose material like that are hard to come by and the market seems to demand stuff that make you look like a power ranger

I'm starting to have that "its been a long season and I don't want to suffer anymore" feeling. I still like riding my bike, but continuing to do hard rides is becoming a chore. Especially those solo interval rides. Just finished up a 3 day overload, TSB is -23.

Still 1 more "A" event on the schedule in early Oct...

Maybe somebody else, but not me.

Although I have heard about some rides along the beach where some head snapping has led to whiplash.

Also you're looking "resplendent" in your champion's jersey as Phil & Paul would say.
