1:15 JRA / threshold / Vo2Max. After yesterday's track session, today, I planned some threshold / Vo2Max climbing. My legs felt like crap at the start and did not feel much better as time went on. I was riding on PCH along the ocean and decided to JRA to Corona del Mar beach. It was a gorgeous day.

I got back to the start of the climb and thought, what the hell, I have all year to fill the right side of the curve and did a z4/z5 climb. My last 5 minutes was Vo2max power. I headed back and called it a day.

Took a one hour nap and went to the gym for some upper body, core and leg work. Did some box jumping.

Was going to start a trainerroad plan yesterday, but it was 10pm by the time I was done with familial duties, so I'll have to start tonight. Since I'm primarily on the trainer these days, I'll have to force myself to get up at 5-5:30 to get a session in before my son wakes up for the day, rather than trying to fit something in 9-10pm.

Only 1.5 hours this morning, pretty weak.

Did 30' uphill @ 85%.

Feels like 85% might be closer to 75-80%, testing will commence next week.

As a crit racer (that's your strength) do you find you spend a lot of time climbing or doing hill repeats?

Day off today, 3hrs z2 yesterday, 2hrs w 90min tempo the day before.

I did my 3hr ride yesterday at 195w, which felt easy. 200W for longer duration has been an arbitrary goal of mine for a while now; looks like I'm knockin' on that door.

Up next: Get that FTP north of 300w, then start sharpening my high end, which has always been my strength! I'm excited to see the power numbers I can generate for shorter durations.

**** no! I generally avoid extended climbs around here actually.

But I'm trying to train some weaknesses (FTP, steady efforts), in addition to having fun with more crit-related stuff that I'm better at/enjoy doing.

So once or twice a week I try do some steady stuff, like today.

How many calories do you eat in a day to maintain weight? Like 3,500 at least? You must burn at least 7000 calories a week solely from cycling.

Closer to 2800-3000 I think. I was tracking it for the last few months or so, at least roughly (estimating something without a barcode is tricky of course).

And fwiw I've lost a few pounds in the last week, probably from all the riding.

Not even trying to lose weight though - I might be the only guy on this board happy with their weight! =]

I find for myself, as a Crit rider, that hill repeats really help my top end. Plus I climb like a scared cat...

On vacation without the bike but managed to get in a set of 3'+3' over-unders on the hotel gym stationary, plus weights.

Super tough morning ride. Following Dylan as he absolutely hammers for a few minutes, I pull through quick, and then 5 guys come past including Dylan who says "last"... wtf? I look back and can't see the pack. Ten minutes later Dylan single handedly dropped me and another guy from the break, then stayed away with the other 3 desperately hanging on.

"last" in that context means he's the last guy in line, so you need to get ready to speed up to get on his wheel.

That's exactly what he's supposed to say. It keeps you focused looking forward so you don't have to keep looking back.

I think aaronmcd knows that. The WTF was because he wasn't expecting the group to be whittled down to just a few guys.

10 minutes warm up on trainer then strength training 40 minutes on the trainer at mostly at 75%. My arms were a bit shaky holding me upright after strength work. Feeling tired head achy and hungry today. Usually not a good sign. Oh...and it feels like my right ear has been plugged for the last few days. Annoying! Going try to get this headache under control and to eat a little more and still try to work out tonight unless I start feeling worse.

I got my 90 minutes in, at a worse time than @mattm . I couldn't figure out why it was so wet. That's my acting "what is this?!"

I should add that it would probably really annoy most of you to know how hardcore I felt for riding in the rain. I even knew it was going to rain when I went out!!
