sounds like under-estimation of FTP, especially 891 under 11 hours. That's IF of 0.9 for a week straight.

that winning "sprint" was 735w max, 622w for the 30 seconds.. in a real race I would've been swarmed hard.

what kills me is that our guy who won has barely been training!

dont worry though, I'm positive you'll end up in the winning break a few times this season.

I'm in a similar boat. Last weeks was 12 hours and 850 TSS. The week before was similar and I'm due to retest next week. I did one of my 2x20s using RPE instead of watts and exceeded my prior 20 min power by quite a bit. I've really only been tracking data with power for the past. 6 weeks and it's good fun.

Could very well be. I use the Strava estimate for FTP, which is very close to my Max 20min Ave power from Garmin Connect. I know I need to do a real FTP test, otherwise numbers are skewed.

Re: compression talk.

My elbows had been bothering me so I went to sleep with arm warmers. Woke up with a rash where the elastic was sitting too tight on my arms.

I've been using compression calf sleeves all day for a couple of weeks. I love them. Somewhere I read that the way to tell if you need compression socks is if you put them on and feel better.

mostly it seems to be agreed upon that whatever benefit one receives is placebo, and that there's nothing wrong with placebo if it works.

Strava thinks my FTP is 768w.

Do the test.

Got to plan my current week after a semi-accidental rest week, and I am reminded once again that I have no idea what the F I'm doing. Guess I'll keep alternating tempo and threshold workouts on the trainer and pound out some big miles on the weekend.

That's humbling...
I can't believe he is 50 either. I'm going to have to shoot him an email asking who he thinks he is having a ride named after him...

I'm in the same boat (well moreso, I'm ultra clueless). Right now I've kind of settled into just sweet spot/threshold type stuff with one endurance level ride (although I'm all indoors these days, so I can't bear anything more than 90mins). I had tried some different trainerroad workouts with higher intensity and from my understanding it would be way too early for me to do anything over z4 at this point, so I'm just doing stuff that could help push up my ftp.

ugh. skipped another workout this morning, which is becoming a bit of a habit this winter...not a good thing. really need to get focused. training with a regular desk job has been much harder (not from a physical standpoint, just a motivational one. i know a lot of people manage to train a lot more with way more responsibilities, this is just a big change from training while at school, so it's taken some adjustment) than I imagined. enough of the "oh it's winter" bs, time to get serious. i'd like to have a decent season this year and that's going to take some work. i've got time, and am in a better spot training wise than last january when i was sitting on a costa rican beach eating fried plantains, but i gotta get my ass in gear.

That coach of ours. He gives you my workouts, then he takes off for two weeks.

My 30s, 1m, and 3m power numbers for the last few days have been right in line with last year at this time... 5m barely less, and 20m off by a bit. I'm working on these specifically because last year at this time I was at least competent in races... numbers toward the end of the season were way higher across all durations so I at least have something to aim for. I'm aiming to be able to put up higher numbers by the end of the season which would be astounding considering the severity of my injuries.

Still haven't got doctor's clearance to race, though!

Yep. I'm getting gradually better at this, but it is tough to figure out. The last thing you want to do when you get home from work, usually, is hop on the trainer. And on the other side, getting up early enough to crank out 90 minutes on the trainer or out in the cold is pretty tough, especially if you're not a morning person.

This morning was so foggy that I missed a turn on a route that I have ridden hundreds, possibly thousands, of times. Then around 7 it got light enough to see where I was going and to read my Garmin. Another set of 2x20's, with a 2' kick.

i can't ride after work, just can't do it. was absolutely fine with the morning ride when i could get outside, but this morning i woke up, drank coffee, looked at the rollers, and got back in bed. no excuse, just laziness and apathy.

not saying it translates fully to recovery from cycling, but if you have surgery / in the hospital, you get them to help promote circulation when sedentary.

does it translate to people who are still moving around?

dunno. cost is minimal; looking like a dork is priceless.

(for full disclosure i'll wear compression socks on drives or flights > 8h, though not if it is warm enough for me to wear shorts during any of those situations.)

pretty awesome considering the major $hit you've been through, physically...esp when you consider that the short stuff falls off fast. it also comes back when you want it.

look forward to hearing when you've made it higher/further than prior bests. bet that is not far off.

What the highest zone? 7 or something? I was up there a lot this morning.

Sounds like you need a coach. There's a half decent one in this thread

FWIW, I have found it is much, much easier to be motivated to do my workouts when I am getting adequate sleep. Making myself put down whatever I'm doing and go to bed is something I've always struggled with (and seems to be a family thing, my grandma tells me she's the same way!). When I do that, getting up and working out becomes something I actually want to do. The struggle is sleeping enough.
