I hope to do a few hard efforts on the new Zwift island tonight. In particular a guy I know was the KOM for the Strava segment for the sprint (18s?). He and I raced together in the Tour of Michigan - he and his wife hosted me and my friend for two Tour of Michigans.

Right now Junior is alternating sitting on a chair and sitting on my shoulder. I'm sitting on the floor next to the chair. It's sort of like having a puppy dog but he can speak words and such. "I eat all the grapes!"

My coach looked at my latest files and called me a robot, which kind of feels like your dad telling you he's proud of you.

Today's 1.5hrs easy easy, maybe some snot rocket intervals.

Today I am enjoying how much easier it is to slack on riding when you're not training.

I've given myself a full month (until June) before I start prescribing workouts and doing high intensity intervals - until then I just want to build volume and get my body used to handling a higher fatigue load. Having said that, I stayed up a little late last night, and when my alarm went off to prep me for a 2hr ride, I just decided to sleep for another hour.

It was awesome.

3 x 2 min 130% ftp
3 x 1 min 150% ftp
3 x 30 sec 180% ftp

Wanted to yack after the 3rd 2 min interval. Mental note a spicy beef stick slice doesn't sit well just before a ride. The 2 minute interval just what the doctor ordered for what I was feeling weak on from the group ride. Trainer is starting to really wear on me though. Going to be tough to keep up the fortitude for the structured intervals indoors as the weather warms up.

Tuesday Night Worlds...

Omg, I forgot how hard cycling can be...(its not a race, but still people go all out) first lap, did better than expected up the hill, heart was beating out of my chest, finally blew up near the top. Laps 2 and 3 my calves were cramping up like crazy. Numbers were piss poor, but its to be expected. Met a few of my new teammates after the ride, its nice to be on a team that revolves around racing.

My thought too. An FTP test is typically 20 minutes as hard as you can go, then taking 95% of that as your FTP...basically the same as 105% of FTP for 20 minutes. If CB can do that three times, her FTP is probably higher than she thinks.

My 11 mile commute this morning took me 15% longer than it did last fall. Getting up the hills with my backpack was harder than I remember.

My FTP is in the 210-215 range. When I do my 20min test, it's in the 220-225 range. So I'm doing FTP 20min intervals today...but at my 20min test pace. ...the point is to up my FTP (my big weakness, other than my weight).

If you can do 3x20 at 105% of FTP then your FTP is set too low. 20 minutes at 105% of FTP should leave you drained and ready to barf or pass out, and limping home, not ready to do it 2 more times.

When did you last test? BTW, FTP is not a range, it's a number.

Doing the 3x20s at sweet spot will do the same thing, without killing yourself in the process.

I tested 3 weeks ago. I gave the range because it's been slowly going up since then. When I originally did the test it was 205. A week later 210. Now it's 214 (according to TrainingPeaks updates).

2-2.5hrs cyclotourist pace on the plate today, so I'm going to head down to storm king and get my mind blown by the views.

Well I'm going from nearly untrained mid-January to getting a road bike Feb 15th...to racing (and training with a power meter). So...yeah...lots of room for improvement.

I'll either have some "junk food" and do a group ride tonight or get in some form of structured workout during my lunch break (I can only be on the bike for 50 minutes). I'm undecided on which I should do. It will be my last hard workout before a race weekend.

5x1:20 or so with long rbi. First short intervals in a while, not counting track racing.

agreed with first part; disagree with the second part. FTP spans just too large a range, and depending on a variety of conditions, can be +/-3% different from the nominal value. But if one could do 3x20 at 105%, then i tend to agree that it may be too low. Then again, it also depends on the person. I have no problem doing 2x20 at 105%, though i haven't tried 3x20. Part of this may be semantics, and part of this is how I train. I don't train to maximize FTP, i train to improve recovery at increased levels of blood lactate, and whatever number I assign as FTP is a corollary of that.

A particular workout I do have me going between 108% and 90% of a nominal value I call FTP. If i were to do a steady state effort, I may very well be able to knock out 3x20 at 105% of the FTP (actually have done 105% followed by 107%), but there's no way i can hit 108% of 105% (or 113% of what I deem to be FTP) during the workout. Ergo, i don't reset things. This is the semantics part of it.

Then there's FTP on road bike vs TT bike, etc. and you can't say that it's a static number b/c what i can hold on the TT bike is different from what i can hold on the road bike.
