Different kind of steroids. Anabolic steroids are performance-enhancing. You are almost certainly taking a glucocorticoid, which is a catabolic steroid. It is a negative to performance. I your side effects are terrible, you should talk to your doctor. There is no one dose/treatment protocol for glucocorticoids, both of these are commonly adjusted based on side effects.

recovery today. have to be off the bike sunday - tuesday for work travel so planning a hard 4 day block starting tomorrow. continuing on the mission of riding myself into the group to hopefully figure out some relatively respectable form for the latter part of the season.

Unless the software is very sophisticated it will likely have errors. A single missed beat or an extra beat from static electricity / e-noise will really mess things up.
If anyone is curious -but isn't ready to pay anything- there is a free android app call Stress Test by Azumio you can play around with.
Daily ECG analysis and metabolomic profiling will be the dope of the future for very rich teams. Sky should buy me a LC-MS-MS

most measures we have, like TSS or CTL, are good at measuring the work we've done in the past, but they are not prescriptive/predictive in my experience (not even TSB).
i've also learned that what i feel is "good sleep" (sometimes but not always a long sleep) does not match very well with other cues in my body about recovery. it's interesting to tie HRV, overnight, to performance and even to getting sick/overtraining. IMO, there is quite a bit there but it takes a very careful eye and a bunch of time getting to really know one's norms to figure out how to harness it.

If your sea-level SpO2 is high - 98+ and HR low - there is no sickness being fought off, no fatigue you are dealing with, you are rested.
A $30 figure device to tell you that.
Sunday's crit bagged as that was not the case and still recovering from sickness.
BP also varies lots based on prior days efforts and tells you about dehydration. If you are dehydrated you standing BP is lower than your sitting one. If your well hydrated your standing BP is higher.

Not feeling well today. Either allergies or something else.... took multi v, netti pot, garlic...hopefully it helps. Went for a ride to burn it off. Back in the Marines, if we were sick they made us burn it out the fever through training. It worked, outside of the two times I passed out in the middle of a run.

That sucks. I haven't been around much and hadn't read that. I hope Matt's not too hurt and heals quickly.

For anyone posting about power/TSS/PSI or whatever that is not measuring their morning resting HR and SpO2 - you are doing it wrong.
Its a $30 device that will tell you more about what you are ready for than any several hundred dollar power thingy - or on bike HRM. It is a baseline you don't get from a power meter. When you wake up, stick you figure in this thing (low hanging fruit I know). Pay attention for about 1-2 months. Then come back and tell me I'm wrong.

he told me to post it! I flatted out of the p12 race after 7 minutes yesterday. @mattm lasted long enough to get crashed out, right after I left to beat the traffic, I guess.
It's a bummer, but his skin is thicker than his bones and we joke around.

The idea - is get a pattern. Say you are normally 53-57 BPM in the AM. You wake up race day and you are 66. Unless its nerves, drugs or something you know about - don't race. You are not OK. It may take a day of rest, but you are not OK.
SpO2 - Internet search it but similar. This is the efficiency your blood is hanging on to O2. If you are fatter, live at higher altitude, or fighting something - it will be lower. If you have real thick skin it may be lower.
If you become acclimated to altitude (tent or real) it goes up. If you are near VO2 max its mid 80s. If you get low 80s your body is not supplying O2 to your organs and call a doctor. Mid 80s may affect your concentration and judgment.

I chuckled; which hurt given the two broken ribs..
So yeah, again. Ugh. First thing I thought when I hit the ground was "wtf not again!", and then I was plowed into while down - yet again - adding insult (two broken ribs) to injury (road rash on legs/hip/elbow/shoulder, some on the hands too).
Wtf happened I wish I knew. It was a fun 50 minutes leading up to that, lots of attacks and the team was riding well. Was coming back from an attack/going slowish, when I felt a brush on my left side and next thing I new I was kissing pavement. Then dude ran into me.
At least the collarbone/plate is intact, came down on that side too.. and bike is ok.. dreams of doing well in Truckee/nats are over, but season is not. So it goes.

I use my Fitbit HR in a similar fashion as it logs my resting hr overnight as well as quality of sleep. My readings have ticked down as my fitness has gone up with the biggest spikes the day after races. Of course the reason I have it into get steps for my works healthcare plan but still.
