I have friends who have state champs jerseys for masters coed tandem time trial. They were the only ones in their category that showed.

too lazy and left fast wheels on TT bike. Took it out to do my 20min interval and broke my shoe, which jarred a storage bottle out of the behind-the-seat cage, which landed and broke and spilled all my ****.
After picking up my stuff I see the cage is actually broken. Anyway, abandoned real interval work and decided that a nice calm-ish warm day with fast wheels meant I would do TT work how I got strong on the road bike and I went and stole KoMs.

the fast saturday race ride goes over this segment: https://www.strava.com/segments/867780?filter=overall ... 10,000 unique riders and hey hey, what do you know. Being fat is OK for TTs.

He does K-12 Online Public School from Home | Connections Academy. He did state testing last week in a real room with some 200 kids. What a group! At his table pro surfer, pro golfer, girl with some fashion Internet page, skate board pro. Just like taking the local public HS (were both kids went) and slicing off the top 10% achievers.

You get into the best colleges being a jock - not because you got good math and science.

I wouldn't be surprised if there were more athletic scholarships than academic in some states.

You might get into Stanford, University of Chicago or an Ivy League school over someone else of equal academic talent (the top 3-5% of students, in terms of both test scores and GPA) because you are a national level talent.
But you almost certainly won't be admitted to those schools unless you are a top 5% applicant, regardless of how well you ride a bike, twirl a baton, or throw darts.
I wasn't accepted at Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, Penn State, UT Austin, and Penn because I was a four sport varsity athlete. I was admitted because I blew the ACT and SAT out of the water, in addition to having a very solid GPA.
Kids these days should be trying to go the Kate Courtney/Stanford route, not the Andrew Talansky/Lees-McRae route.

It's funny how one of the classic justifications for shaving your legs is wound care. When I was in HS, playing school and American Legion ball, we'd play on some gawdawful hardpan and crushed lava infields. My knees and thighs were one giant strawberry from March to August. That's when I should have been shaving my legs.
I don't grow hair on my left knee, shin or upper thigh to this day because of this exact reason.

So continues my desperate attempt to be relevant in a mediocre category in a mediocre district. #getwattsordietrying Weight is a problem.
Oak Glen Backside - A long HC climb which I slogged up; it was 102 at the summit, but really my legs were just....
Climbing: 3904ft
Work: 1215kJ
TSS - 166
Then I went to the Crit Practice - Pulled off on the last lap as my calves were twitching.
Climbing: 692ft
Work: 649kJ
TSS: 86
On the plus side with @Ygduf dominating the norcal stravas I can look forward to people asking, 'what am I doing down here'
Time to crash out.

Anyway, while I appreciate all the attention both my kids are fine academically. This discussion is better had in the soccer forum where everyone posting is a parent. Start here:Acedemic Fit facts. - Forums

Correct - using Varsity sports. It is much easier for girls.

As far as Stanford is concerned, she's a normal student, not a varsity athlete. It's a club sport there, and she receives no compensation of any form from them for being one of the best U23 MTB racers in the world.
That's very different from the kids that go to the Marians, Lees-McRaes, etc of the country.

Taper week before A Race next weekend. Second of 2 short interval workouts this week yesterday, 15 second microbursts with 15 seconds rest 9x4. Short rest between sets. Racing Saturday at Glencoe crit for training in what looks to be rainy, cold, windy conditions. Lovely. Feel like my fitness is there comparing my power curve to others, but staying safe will be the priority.

Kate Courtney races bikes for free at Stanford; the school is NOT paying for her education because she can pedal well.

What's the deal with Marian, they are one of the powerhouses for cycling? I know it is a massively niche sport that I am still very new to, but I grew up in Indianapolis, so I find it quite odd that a school in that area would develop as a cycling power. How did that happen? I was randomly checking out some college results a while back and saw them at the top of the charts so figured they were randomly good.
@Doge i got into a top 15 school (early decision so I only applied to one) and it sure as hell wasn't because of my athletic abilities. in fact, it was precisely because i was good at math and science.

Last night's training ride was supplanted by the local 'Ride of Silence,' which most of the team showed up for. Then we had a little crit throwdown in the park. It's the first time I've been able to do laps there with the team and now all the Strava segments are mine...all mine! (muahahaha) The best part was that I got the jump on the boys and took the final sprint from them.
