oh dear god. getting a temp ban and a perma ban are two totally different things…

the point was the flame war the ensued last time Mikey discussed plyo.

Off work today so 4, 8 minute intervals of 15" all out, 15" off. It's incredibly hot but couldn't get my HR over 154. The power was there but I guess I might be ready for a rest week.

Group ride today. Set new power PRs from 1-2 minutes trying to catch back on to the front group after someone sat up and gapped. Finaly have a 1 min w/kg that doesn't look too bad

SJBC training crit - won it.

went otf with a guy on the first (2-mi) lap, he dropped out a lap later and I kept going solo for 45 mins.

caught, went otf went another guy for 5 laps or so, then caught again with one lap to go.

took the field sprint.

then was asked to give advice to some junior... i said, "i dunno wtf i'm doing, just race a lot and go hard!"

I went to the track tonight, first time all year. I raced with the B+ guys.

10lap + win and out: 4th

I got caught with my head in my ass and missed a group of three that went OTF and took laps one and two for 1st and 2nd. I went to sprint for third, totally could have passed him, but missed by a few tire lengths. I blame my low gearing (50/15) - I had more muscle to accelarate when I jumped out of the saddle, but I was already spun out. I could have gotten a lot more momentum before I sat down and spun it out. Damnit!

10lap point a lap: 0 points.

Not a whole lot to say here. My stomach was a little upset after that last race (those short races are ****ing fast!) so I just kinda spun it in, and felt a lot better after.

25lap points, sprints every 5:

Not sure where I ended up as I left right after, but if I didn't win I got 2nd or 3rd at worst. I was involved in every sprint but didn't win any of them - instead I got two 2nds (including the last lap) and a bunch of 3rds and 4ths. Halfway through, I noticed most other riders were breathing heavier than me after the sprints, and needed more recovery. On the 2nd to last sprint, I dropped into the pole lane immediately after the sprint, got low and just cranked for a bit. 1 lap later I turn around and there is one rider with me and a big gap, great. We traded 1/2 lap pulls till the last sprint, during which he won by a smidgen.

All in all, a fun time. I feel like track can be a lot of fun, but i've been discouraged this year because I feel like it is a big time investment for relatively little riding time. Doing an interval training ride on Fiesta Island is a much more time efficient workout. Still, it's a lot of fun, and can be useful for sharpening up your high end game, both physically and mentally. Maybe next year I'll make it a point to go once/4-week training cycle.

Weird ride on the trainer tonight. Dropped chain 3x in one sprint, off the big ring to the outside. Jump, drop, pick up, jump, drop, unjam chain from crankarm/ring, pick up chain, jump, drop, give up. This seems to happen in the 53x11 on the trainer, not sure why. I still got a reasonable sprint time, 28s. Limited myself to the 53x12 to avoid problems, did my last sprint fine. First sprint was weird also, chain hopped around in the back so I shifted into a larger cog to let the chain settle.

Left hamstring? is about 1/2-3/4" wider than normal. It's whatever would touch the seat post if it swelled up a bit. It solidly hits the post today. Apparently I used it pretty hard on Sunday. I do sit to the right a bit on the saddle, but when I adjusted where I sit so the lower and upper part of my legs seemed about even, the left leg overlapped the post by a lot, the right not at all.

Definitely not time efficient, but it is pretty fun usually. I'm looking forward to my first race in the 1/2/3 field tomorrow!

Nice, good luck!

In the B/B+ field at San Diego there are a fair amount of decently fit cat3s like myself. The SDBC rider who won the Carslbad GP crit on Sun was in my field tonight at the track.

Out of curiosity, what was your low gear last Saturday? Building some muscle isn't a bad idea, but I've been finding that I do better if I suck it up and use a slightly lower gear for the steep stuff. Having a 28T undoubtedly saved my butt at Hilltowns.

Feeling pressed for time, a little hectic at work and downright aggro. Changed out the brake pads really quick on my CX bike and set out to hammer the rail trail. When I finally slowed down enough to hear anything besides wind, I realized the rear brake had been dragging for 20 minutes. Adjusted it and hammered back.

I never set out to get these things (any more) but it turns out I got the strava KOM both ways on the trail, both of which were previously held by CX pros. So that was fun.

Heck I might even think about doing some cross races again, if I wasn't such a lumbering uncoordinated yak off the bike.

[edit] one of those pros has 29 pages of KOMs. So I don't think he'll notice.

[edit 2] 81 minutes on the bike with 48 minutes of Z4. I think that is a gsteinb style workout.

34/28. that's my low gear for pretty much all training and for racing i either use an 11/25 or 11/28. definitely glad i had that low gear and I'm certainly going to need it at catskills.

shake out today after 3 days off the bike. Did some work and decided to climb hard. PR'd a short/steep climb with all-time 5min power for me. Then dragged my ass to the top for another 16 minutes and PRd the climb was was 15w off my all time 20-min power.

Anyway, good times. If I weren't so fat I would fly uphill.
