Compact vs. Std. Crankset ????
Building a new Giant TCR, and wondering what others are doing. What is the concensus? Any downside to going with a compact if your not racing? Thanks!

Ok First I will say that this is probably better suited for some other area of the forum. To answer your question I will say this, buy both. Unless you are buying a $300+/- crank I would say spend the extra money and buy both but be sure they both work on the same BB (i.e. ISIS or Octalink or Square Taper). This way you can switch the crank based on the type of ride (i.e. more hills go for the compact). If you don't want to go this route then buy a triple.

I think that it really depends on where you're going to be racing, and ho fast you're going to be going. If you live in a flat area, you might actually use the 53x11 gear, but If you're no stud, and/or live in ahilly area, I'd get the compact.
Edit: I just saw that you're not gonna be racing...whys this in the racing forum? get the compact if its not a big deal for you, and you're not gonna race.
