For you rkwaki -- some of our ever so slight riders.
She's 5'11". The guy leaning in is 6'2". The two guys in the background are 6'2" and 6'3". And then there's this skinny kid who likes to climb....

We should have a good solid bunch going (we have 5 solid 1s and 5 2s for the amateur not including me who is nothing)

She led out the sprint and won.
Even though she won she wasn't on the 1-2-3-4 start list so they awarded the state title to the Cat 1 or 2 that got second in the race. I was bummed out for her but she was ecstatic she won the race.

I see what you did there!
I'm playing some catch up with the family and girlfriend the next month or so. Been racing too much this spring already. Wasn't planning on racing any the crits, but looks like I won't be going to spectate either unfortunately!

He sure is cleaning up for Beck Janitorial. Har har har.
I still haven't ridden with the kid yet. He scares me.
Macon GA Women's III State champs. Our rider broke a cleat and finished but didn't win. She then went and raced the P123 women's race. Louis Garneau had 6 riders in it and wanted it bad. Our rider proceeded to gap the field on the last lap to win. But since she was a III and the III jersey already was awarded the second place rider go the state jersey.
She kicks ass on so many levels. Great person.

I raced a crit last weekend but the only info worth of reporting is that after the Cat4 race I was confronted/attacked by a crazy fellow racer. BTW He had at least 30lb on me. Imagine that!
I was encouraging him to punch me (as my lawyer would be happy to have another case) but he only pushed me few times as his teammates pulled him away from me. All that over a short fight over a wheel with about 3 laps to go. I was sitting about fifth wheel and on the same wheel for at least 5 laps when this dude started to push me out.
First I told him "dont even try, this is my wheel" and pushed my elbows out to make it clear, but he wouldnt back out and kept trying so I asked him "Do you want to cause a crash?" He started to scream "this is racing". Then we were both screaming at each other. I guess those few guys in front of us got distracted by our fight as they slowed down and the whole pack just flew by us.
I finished the two laps at the back of the pack just to find this maniac waiting for me after the finish line.
35+ was fun. Fast and no non-sense BS we always have in those Cat4 crits. The wind and small field of about 50 made it even harder, but still fun. Pack finish.

As you can imagine, for some locals it is an A race
Hahaha, no kidding. I would say more than that but he still had at least 30lb on me. If he was just a little bit smarter, he would get on my wheel and enjoyed the draft.

There's a new Tuesday course in DFW... it has a hill. Craig Ranch, I think the city is Frisco? Or McKinney.
Anyway, in the 3/4 race I gunned it from the start and after a couple of laps looked back and there were 8 of us left with only shreds behind. That felt good. Of course I was toast for the rest of the race, started overheating (it was sunny and 90F with a stout dry South wind) ... eventually a couple of the skinny juniors tag teamed me and I had to let them go. 7th place.

We should have attacked. I went in looking at this as a training race and wanted to suffer lots. That didnt end up happening except on the hills. I could have gone harder on all the flats and rollers but felt that noone else was going to work that hard. You definitely were pulling your share but the others not so much. I actually was trying to gutter all you guys after that so that I could wear everyone down a bit before the finish. (This was right after you said to me to get to the right side.) Just before that I was trying to get a paceline to chase hard.
I had a blast and am still not totally recovered. It is looking more unlikely that I will get to the State RR this weekend. Good luck!

Another week another crit. Dld c-flite. Picked the wrong wheel going up the little hill at the end and got boxed out and dropped, then caught back up (windy days are my friend) and hung out in the pack, finished like 8th or something. I really enjoy this race.
As a side note I raced the legacy duathlon in salt lake Saturday and finished 3rd overall, but you'll probably shun me for saying that.

Cat4/5 Velo Fest Road Race 4/14: 37 miles. Flat, flat, flat course. 6 Turns. Somewhat windy. Not ideal for a lanky alien like me. Sat in mid-pack for the first 1/4. Chillin. Advanced to top 10 about 1/3 of the way through. Still sitting in. 13 or so miles to go, dude in front of me (who I had marked as a strong rider, for whatever that's worth) makes a move, so I hop on. We ride off the front, and he almost immediately pulls off. I put in a hard effort (~29mph or so), then try to pull off. He doesn't pull through. Slow it down slightly. Look back, the field is well strung out. I try to move over, but everyone follows. Finally really slow it down, disheartened, and begin my demise to the back of the pack. Legs are pretty well cooked. I realize that in the blindness of my misery I have drifted to the very back. The pace slows down for the last 5 miles or so, the road is clogged, and I give up hope of advancing. By this point I am wallowing in existential dilemma. Finish with the pack, obviously don't try to contest anything. Realize a dude on my team got 3rd (who wisely sat in 12th wheel or so most of the race).
Lessons learned: if you're going to attack, you should fully commit. Otherwise, just sit in, esp. when you're a weeny on a dead flat course.

Matrix Challenge, the oldest crit in Texas. 40+ 1-4. Beautiful spectator-friendly figure-8 course. 8 yes 8 turns in less than a mile. It's a technical course, narrow in places, crashes happen in almost every race, every year. I started the cat 3 race but stupidly lined up too late.. 9 rows back. Race starts, I start moving up, no prob for a few laps then BAM a highlight-reel crash in front of me. Brake, swerve, sprint chase chase chase, still 50 riders in front of me. Make contact with the back of the leading group, start moving up again, BAM a highlight-reel crash in front of me. The sudden POP of a tire, smell of brake pads melting and a carnage in front of me. Brake, swerve, started to sprint and said... nah. DNF. Live to ride another day.

Going back to last season second crit in a row where i've sat in and sprinted and won. Starting to wonder if I'm actually a sprinter.
