OK I'm not doing this for every meal, but this along with the other stuff gives a fair representation of a day's food.:
Lunch 6oz Black Cod filet (The package I defrosted had 2 filet's, I used one last night, one today), pan fried in coconut oil. Once cooked, I put Trader Joe's Olive Tapenade on top. Steamed asparagus and broccoli covered liberally in butter (grass-fed) and black pepper. 2 pieces of bacon for dessert Nutritional guesses: 35 grams of protein 60 grams of fat 12 grams of Carbs / 7 grams fiber 730 calories total Estimated insulin response: 3/5 of F.A. Now, you can take these 3 meals I've listed and throw in the odd handful of nuts or slice of cheese here or there for snacks. Add in a few cups of black/green/white tea and that's a fairly representative snapshot of my present diet. Will it work? Hell, I don't know. I know what I was doing, and it wasn't bad. I can go back to that at any point. I'm curious to see how I feel after a couple months of this. So far, I'm impressed. I expect it to be a little bit of a learning process. My long Saturday ride will be an eye opener, for sure. I know I'm not 'fat-adapted' or ketogenic, yet. I'm wondering if the wheels are going to completely fall off a couple hours in. If they do, I'll report about it. Hopefully I'll be able to sneak in a longer ride tomorrow so my first long ride on this diet isn't in front of god and everyone. We'll see, I guess. |
Had to snicker when I see the last post by Fat Boy in the "All About Nutrition". :D
Interesting stuff though. |
anyone take supplements or things like creatine?
|
just protein powder for me.
|
supplements that work: beet juice, beta alanine, creatine (if you don't mind the water weight), echinacea, st johns wort, vit d, ZMA.
the zma is just me, I don't think any science backs it up. But zinc is shown to be an immune system booster, so if it hurts it's not too much. |

Loads of science backs up the Zinc and Magnesium during hard training, more so than most of the other things listed. It's all about stabilizing the hypothalamic- pituitary-gonadal / thyroidal axes.
I've gone to no supplements this year. The body will do what it needs to do. I eat like crap but all my levels seem pretty normal so I'll keep chugging away without buying anything extra until I start dying or something. |
I'm going to fast for 10 days in october.
|
I did a juice fast for about that length of time last december. let me know if you need info.
|
sure. that would be good.

Supplements. OK, here's my laundry list.
For my cardiovascular system, which is quite a bit different than most. Tumeric and CoQ10. To try to make Testosterone: Bee Royal Jelly, Fenugreek, Tongkat Ali (Longjack), D-Aspartic Acid Basic Ergogenic aids: Creatine, Beta Alanine (small dosages, long term) Nutritional: Protein powder, I haven't been eating much of this since I starting the high-fat thing. Excessive protein consumption pushes you away from ketosis. Since I'm eating more meat that I was, I don't need to add protein to get the amount I'm shooting for. I put some in my 'cereal' yesterday morning more as a mechanism for flavoring. I've played with Zinc and Magnesium for sleep. I haven't really found anything that shows up obviously. It might help, but not sure. I might have enough veggies in my diet that these are not needed for me. I have read that you need to cycle Zinc and Iron back and forth since they influence each other. I haven't done that. The funny part is that all of what I do probably does little more than make expensive urine. Whatever... |
jesus, you guys spend more in friggin' supplements than I do on groceries.

If I spend more than $40 a week on groceries (usually eat out 1-2 times a week MAX) I'm spending a lot.

Last week (estimating) I cooked about 10 pounds of fish, 10 pounds of chicken, probably 8 pounds of beef and at least 20 sweet pototos... It's nonstop in our house. We don't however, eat out very often. |

the supplements I take are relatively cheap. The beet juice is the hardest to get, so I save it for race weeks.
Anyway, it's better than getting sick. Most everything I take is targeted at mood and immune system support. Placebo or actually effective, I don't get sick often. |

False dichotomy. I'd even wager that people who take supplements eat well more than not.
take them; don't take them. believe them; don't believe them. I don't care. OP asked, I answered. |
