Ken, thats what we were trying to determine last night. After alot of debating I came here to see if BF world knew. That makes sense as if they didnt do power to weight then it wouldnt be fair or make sense. Thanks for the info

In theory I can hear what you are saying and there is probably some truth to it but in my experience I have ridden with some strong 3/4 rider (that little dude grolby is very strong, and little )
Another thing I can comment on is that there are a lot of p/1 riders that handle their bikes like new Cat 5s (this is based on personal experience of me chewing a few of them out).
Haha, you're a bad liar fatty, but thanks.

Anyway, I see jsut's concern as well, but I figure he survived his first 1/2 race, so the rest of us dummies can survive as well. These amateur champs 1/2/3/4 races have been run for years now, they seem to do okay. And I don't want to seen overconfident or cocky, but the straight-up truth is that I'm a better bike handler than your average roadie, at least in these parts, and we do ride with the local 1/2s in training all the time. I'm not afraid of them.

None of this guarantees that I will qualify for this race, or that they're perfectly safe, I'm just saying that I don't see much point in worrying.
    ISO: used, working Shimano 10-speed shifters/groups (6600, 6700, 7800, 7900). PM por favor.

Good point plus if you run into a guy like me anyways it would be like a fly hitting a windshield
    And yes, you'd do fine

yeah my points were more around the aspect of racing with 1/2 then being strong. That jump from 3----> 1/2 is big. Everything is different.

James, I used to spend a ton of time on the computrainer at the UF Sports Performance Center every winter doing hurtivals, like lunch hour 2x a week for three months kind of time. You punch in your weight into the computrainer (you + bike) and that's used for figuring out speed/distance/time when running a course on the unit.

When used in Ergo mode, the stupid computrainer is a cruel beast.

Or race on a Cat 5 1 Day
At our race a couple weeks ago, one of the Cat 1 women raced on a one-day license. When the race official saw that, she DQ'd her. Apparently there is a rule that you can only do a one-day license if you have never had a license or something like that.

I have not read all the responses, but FWIW, on group ride computrainer sessions where multiple riders are all hooked up and "race" each other, you need to input your weight. The Computrainer measures power and calculates speed based on weight and simulated grade, among other things.

Thanks ken and everyone else that responded. It makes sense if its based off weight. That was the answers I was looking for. I also found out that the Computrainer Qualifying the night before is only for 8 spots, so the other 80-90 racers can duke it out before the spot to not be in the back. This means theres no way Im wasting a friday trying to qualify for a top 8 spots when there will most likely be 40+ cat 2s trying for the same spot. Ill fight before the race for a spot near the front.

At least some RacerMate software has errors in their physics. They calculate gravitational potential energy as m * h and sometimes fail to convert between linear and angular velocity.

Yeah, I know it's hard to believe given the quality of their software...
