I race with this: (my first bike)

It's a Schwinn from Bikes Direct. It came with a triple compact which I've replaced with a double compact (after my first race season), bought a rear wheel with power tap and I just ordered a lighter wheel set that were on sale (HED C2). I've been holding out on the wheel purchase let alone a new bike purchase just because I don't think it'll really be a huge difference. I bought the wheels mainly for my own "oooh! new bike stuff...time to ride more!" Told myself I'd get a new bike when I get Cat 3.

Buy what you can afford and ride/race lots then figure out which direction you want to move from there.

    Nice.

I think you are overthinking ****, just get a bike, get on it, ride it, race it if you crash you crash, move on.

    Do you need the following?
    1. Powermeter - no
    2. Carbon Wheels - no
    3. SRAM Red - no
    4. Fancy anything else - no

Buy your stuff used for pennies on the dollar and do it.

Seriously, you don't even need a heart rate monitor. Get a bike that works, ride it a lot, do workouts that make you tired, rest, go ride some more, race, enjoy. And drop the attitude if you want people to help you. Not just online, but in person as well. There's a cat 4 around here who thinks he's hot ****, so he's wrapping himself in bandages and putting photos on FB to "mess with the competition" by making them think he's injured. Result: everyone thinks he's a sad joke. Copping an attitude or fronting doesn't help your reputation. Don't be a wise guy. Be real.
    ISO: used, working Shimano 10-speed shifters/groups (6600, 6700, 7800, 7900). PM por favor.
