Ontario (California) Criterium series...

Anyone here race the Ontario Criterium series? The first one is this Sunday. Now I do not think I will race this one so early in the season (4 and 5 are combined and it is 45 minutes) ut that may change.

Idea on the course, number of enterantes etc.

The Ontario crits are some of the funnest in S. Cal..IMO. There's a category for almost everyone, especially masters, so give it a try. The courses are safe, wide and unlike so many four corner industrial park crits, the Ontario crits are all now the seven corner 1.2 mile course, even if it is in an industrial park.

You should stop worrying so much and jump in the pool and get wet dude. With the attitude you're developing, you won't ever find yourself on the starting line. Oh yeah, the early season crits are usually the slowest of the year, as everyone gets fitter as the season progresses, so do the speeds of the crits go up. So get out there and race....try it you'll like it

I am seriously considering doing it, we will see, that is why I am asking about it. Don't get me wrong I am going to do my first crit soon, just when. I do not know if my fitness level is quite there this early in the season. I am going to go test the waters possibly in one of the local crit practices this week and see how it goes first.

EDIT:: Time issue, darn!

I just noticed that the CAT 4/5 group is going at 2:40... I have to go to work... darn! I guess I will have to wait for a little longer... I hate having to work on Sunday... have to be at work a 4:00 p.m.

I figure the race will not be over until 4:00pm, great

well, if it starts at 2:40...it'll be done around 3:25...thats plenty of time to get to work. you ride a bike for work, too, right? you dont even need to shower!

Gawd ... what I wouldn't give to be racing right now. Send some of that weather my way will ya :D

my58vw 02-15-05 03:37 PM

will a 45 minute + 5 lap crit get done in 45 minutes or is it 45 minutes total. If it is I might just go out there and do it... all depending on how I feel at crit practice on Thursday though...

Wow doing a CAT5 race then riding at work... did not think of that... ouch! :o

I was looking at racing teams and was wondering if you can join mid season usually or just at the beginning. Maybe I should start a new thread on this one...

If I do Sunday I will need to get in some setra training rides this week... then take Saturday off... hmmm!

bigdraft 02-15-05 06:52 PM

If the race is listed as 45 minutes, with the last five laps on lap cards. Then what they do is average your lap speed and when they figure you have five laps left they put you on the lap cards.

I just looked at the fees associated with the race

18 dollars for CAT5
6 dollar late fee
5 dollar unattached fee
1 day licience
probably 30 - 32 dollars

I will probably not be entering this one for that reason... 32 dollars is alot of money right now... well I will tape it again I think. I am looking at joining a team right now and go from there. I am in the process of getting a CAT5 licence and we will go from there.

Thursday I am going to do criterium practice and see where I am...

jbhowat 02-16-05 01:23 AM

A Cat 5 license is like $60 I think, right? I guess you still save money in the long run.

Actually, it might be 30, I can't remember if Cat 5 is 30 and Collegiate (NCCA-USCF) is 30 on top of that, or if it was 60 for the Cat5 and collegiate was a free add-on... Oh well, you'll figure it out.

my58vw 02-16-05 02:12 AM

60 dollars for the CAT5 licence, 30 if collegant, I am not on a collegent team. I am talking with a few loal race teams about joining so I will not be getting my licence yet until after I hear back...

Where do you find out about the local crit races? I live in Santa Ana and would love to at least go and watch them. Is there a web site I can go to to get info???

bigdraft 02-16-05 02:58 PM

Go to
http://socalcycling.com/Schedule/2005/racesched05.asp

That should help you out.

Bigdraft,

Thanks! I knew there had to be a site somewhere.

Murrietta was a much better race. How many times can you ride around that Ontario course and enjoy it? At least they usually do the short course once a year which is fun because it is so fast. The long course is fun once or twice a year but it starts to get boring.
