Phonak banned from Pro Tour...

Following the Camenzind, Hamilton and Perez doping cases the UCI decided today that the Phonak team is not allowed to start in the Pro Tour the coming season.

Will the team disband? Who will go where, Even if Tyler and Perez somehow get off the hook, will anyone hire them?

Could you please point me to the applicable section of the WADA Code that says that the governing body of a sport must sanction from participation in the sport the entire team of an individual or individuals who have tested positive for drug use? Thanks.

PS Angelo was a Dundee, but I am a dondi.

Appreciate it.

Velonews has a slightly different take on it...https://www.velonews.com/news/fea/7201.0.html

Phonak not among teams receiving 'favorable sanction' for '05 Pro Tour

"However, ARcycling AG - Switzerland's Phonak team - didn't make the cut at this stage and the Swiss team has to address some key issues before the panel will punch its ProTour ticket." - cyclingnews.com

It's not over yet. That said, I'd really like to see Kelme get a ProTour spot.

I doubt any of the Pro Tour teams will, so no classics, TdF, Giro, etc. for them. But perhaps one of the teams that won't ride the Pro Tour.

BTW, source is Dutch television (Verbrugge quote). The team managment will have the opportunity to defend itself on November 22 but chances are small.

Anyone know why TMobile was only granted a 2 year license instead of 4?

Well, Floyd signed a contract to ride for Phonak. But if Phonak is allowed to roll out with a peloton, he can't really ride for Phonak can he? With decent legal representation, he should be able to wiggle out of that deal without a scratch. Question is, where does he go from there?

Are the 2 Grand Tours other than the Vuelta even in the Pro Tour, I thought LeBlanc and co didn't want the TdF in it.

Sure he can... in non-Pro Tour events. However, I imagine the loss of ProTour status will cause the team to implode. There must be a lot of sponsorship money that's going to dry up now...

Basically, if Phonak changes the current management (that UCI sees as the problem right now), they'll get in. Just like Cofidis.
Cofodis is waaaaaayyyyyyy worse than this. Other than Camenzind (EPO), there are no drugs here, not that transfusions is a whole lot better. And a number of questions about the tests....but it still smacks of pressure to get a result in a season that was not good for Phonak. Thus the pressure to remove the current group running the team. Once that's done, they'll be in.

Kelme cannot get in due to their not being able to meet the financial requirement. They can barely afford riders (don't they still owe back pay?) and surely cannot afford a development team, another requirement for getting in.

Phonak fired Hamilton today in a last ditch attempt to be allowed on the 2005 Pro Tour, but it didn't work. UCI announced today that the Pro Tour will start without Phonak but with the ASO races (TdF, Roubaix, Liège-Bastogne-Liège, Tours, Paris-Nice, etc.). ASO confirms, stating that they will join the Pro Tour to "prevend the cycling world from a serious crisis."

This is a huge blow to the sponsors. Phonak has now gone from the penthouse to the outhouse in one season.

Tyler and Perez better have an incredible story, but it still won't make up for the Camenzid gaf. Of course, he is retired, far from the chaos he contributed to.

Personally, I don't presume for a moment that Phonak is guilty by association in the Camenzid affair. I doubt if any connections will be made with the other two. Best to remember cases like Millar/Lelli and Simeoni/Ferrari which were perpetuated outside the respective team doctor's oversight.

To bad.

Media reported five doping cases with Phonak over the last two years. Does somebody know which cases they mean, presuming that Camenzind, Hamilton and Perez are the last three?

www.cyclingnews.com reported in a F Landis interview that Floyd can opt out of his contract if Phonak is not granted a PT license. This would be a no-brainer for him, but he'd still have to find a ride for '05.

Think Discovery'll take him back?

Kinda feel bad for Floyd, actually... Hope he doesn't have to sit on the sidelines for a whole year... I doubt he will, but who knows...
