    They don't.

I once saw the McCormacks and teammates flagrantly break the rules, and the officials either turned a blind eye or didn't grasp the protest.

Regarding pulling brakes you just pray that your buddy wasn't here from Europe with his brakes reversed
Yeah we slammed dt shifter in rides often, and pulled saddle bags or pulled frame pumps off and threw them in a field or took food out of each other's pockets (or put rocks in them... and on and on and on. It's amazing the comfort level you get riding/rooming/travelling/racing with the same guys all the time.
I often used the knee to shift and could pick a gear at a time but not with non-indexed shifters I wasn't that good.
My favorite kind of rides. What the hell else are you going to do on 4+ hour rides?

I was able to hold onto my buddy's saddle rails halfway up Mt. Tam one time. "**** man, I'm out of it today..." .... [turns around when I don't respond] ... "you prick. hahaha."

Another buddy of mine rides Ui2. Buttons are so easy to press... accidentally.

I had nothing but single speeds to race. And no pavement. You guys must have come from wealth.

    +1

Lucky Brand Jeans from Nordstrom Rack were my $30 solution. I hear they are popular with the power lifter types too.

I don't have huge legs by any standards, but I wear tight fitting jeans; it can be problematic at times. Not enough to complain about, though. Fashion > comfort.

Once you lap the field, get your ass back to the front and make like a triathlete and poop yourself. That'll keep everyone off your wheel.
Punctuation is important. It's the difference between "I helped my uncle, Jack, off a horse" and "I helped my uncle Jack off a horse"

I have a rule, before anyone borrows my bike I tell them a minimum of two times that the brakes are Rhand->Front

    They still frequently forget.

I don't hit them hard enough to send anyone off the bike. Doesn't take much to send them backwards while I'm still rolling. Doesn't matter which brake

Looking back on Sunday's race, I wish I'd done this - especially considering that out of our three-man break, only two of us did any work and the wheel-sucker had 5 team mates in the field (I had none, other guy had one).

But once we saw the pack's backside it was too tempting not to chase them down.

Anyway, how do you decide when to lap or when to sit back? How do you convince your breakmates that not lapping the field is the best idea?

I look at the situation. If one of the guys has 5 teammates in the field, the other guy has one, and I have none, I might want to avoid catching the field.

On the other hand, if it's windy and I could use a rest knowing it's not going to mess up my chances for a win, I'll go ahead and make the catch.

You're basically making a risk assessment.

Tell them that you have 5 guys in the field. Or suck wheel. Or just say "hey. let's hang back and with two to go we can go balls to the wall".

The last one always seems to work for me. It's an offer no one can refuse without looking like a big whoosey.
