18 flat would be >30mph; few amateurs are capable of that. 19 is more like 28.5 (maybe faster as i think the course is 9.2 not 9.0 miles).

regardless, it is a shorter effort.
I wont be anywhere near those times but if our local race goes 19 flat I bet we'll see some pretty fast times out there. I go into damage control during the TTs.

a friend rode it last year as a 3 (and he's now a competitive 1/2 TTer). knowing his power profile, i'll bet that if any cat 2s go sub-19 it won't be many! a couple top masters riders won't be there this year due to the change from 35 to 40+.

i'm still thinking low 19s will be a solid effort for most fields. i could be wrong though! who knows what prevailing winds will be.

how's the gravel situation in the turns this year? any tips for out-of-towners? i'll probably go pre-ride thursday afternoon.

Rode the course a couple times yesterday. Turns are nice and clear but there is a bit of gravel on the shoulder heading north on Waugh and east on Nelson, not a ton but just enough that you need to be more towards the center of the lane. I didn't race it last weekend, because I had raced Hood then Baker City, so I don't know how it was with the wind.

Wow yeah I didn't even realize that! =[

I guess Pro/1/2 Women get to race, but not 3/4's. They should at least have a 3's only field..

it's a shame. they (same promoters) did have separate fields for hood (usac 3/4 women) and so few showed up.

from what i've observed as a racer, cascade is a bit trickier in the stage 4 circuit race as it is -- running more fields would create even greater overlap issues.
