ever had a beat up hip? How to stay in shape?

OK I maybe a bit redundant but here goes.

I fell pretty hard on my bike this morning. Flying down a mountain road, I took a left onto a perpandicular road. This road was all lose gravel. I fell. Hit the ground at about 40mph. My left side too the blunt of it. All kids of road rash, tattered elbow and a pretty sore hip.

The inside of my hip/femur socket hurts. I can stand walk - but it hurts. Does anyone have exp with this? How quickly will it heal?

I hope my hip will heal by monday. If it doesn't what I can do to stay in shape without tapering to peak shape or losing fitness.

I can pedal pretty good. Just after the crash I was able to pedal 30 miles home. (with a bloody left side I was a sight to see)

Does anyone else have exp with this sort of crash?

If it continues to hurt see a doctor.

Road rash and injuries take energy to heal. Get plenty on rest and make sure things don't get infected. Many injuries are self limiting.

Yes. MTBing. Had it bad. X-ray and MRI. No fractures but MRI showed contusion in the socket. Couldn't hardly move for a few days, barely crawl for a few, used a wheel chair and walker for a week, crutches for a week, and finally a cane for week.

Healing is your priority. If you can ride while healing then great. If you can't then don't.

Unless being able to ride Monday is critical to earning your living for the next year or three it's probably not all that important to be able to ride or maintain fitness while you heal.

Just after the crash you had adrenaline going - a few days after once the swelling kicks in, my guess is that riding won't be so easy.

My advice is don't push it - getting slightly "out of shape" sounds better than prolonging the injury by getting back on the bike too soon..

See a doctor. Get a picture taken. Do what the doctor says. Rest. Forget about fitness. It will come back when you are healthy.

Happened to me a few months back at about the same speed as you. Didn't walk right for 2-3 weeks, but was able to ride after a couple of days. Pushing the pedals hard will make your hip ache, so keep that in mind and pay attention to your body if it really hurts.

Before you do though, get the thing x-rayed.

I crashed and had both hip and knee injuries. I focused on diet to stay lean and just let my body rest. I think I was off for 2 months or so. You could swim laps if you want.
