True.

While the two of you are humorless about parody threads, the cat 5 has an uneducated sticky finger for the infraction button.

THANK YOU!.

Good freakin god, all I wanted was a little input from people that had ACTUALLY RIDDEN those bikes and every other post is slamming me for not doing this or that and trying to assume things. Why the hell does anyone care if I don't want to buy an aluminum bike? It's not for me and I said nothing bad about them. Also, unless you are on my team, don't guess as to what kind of deal I get. I've talked to quite a few other teams in the area and we get treated like royalty compared to them, so sue me if I want to do my sponsor a favor and ride what he sells. I also didn't want the same bike that several other guys on the team ride. It may also help the store sell more bikes if they see team members on the newest stuff. If I wasn't on a team I would certainly race the S3 and take my chances but again, I want to rep my sponsor. Unfortunately, the trade off is that I don't get to test ride one beforehand so that's why I was looking for a little advice on which way to go.

I didn't realize that it would be that cheap to fix carbon so thanks for the info on that.

Thanks for the input from everyone, very helpful. Bike is on order.

Okay, now everyone just needs to calm down. This thread unfolded rather predictably given the original question, and there was good info in this thread.

Glad you're getting a new bike now. Post pics when it's here.

OP,

To be fair, your original question was: I need a crit bike (no such thing) because I don't want to crash my expensive road bike. I want something my sponsor sells (reasonable), but I can't try any of them out (not all that reasonable), so tell me which one is better.

We can give you our impressions of these bikes but it doesn't really matter. Both will do perfectly well in any sort of racing and it really comes down to: which one fits you better (see the point about you not being able to try them out, thus have no idea which would fit better)? Or hell, which color do you like more?

Enjoy your new bike and good luck racing it. Post pictures in the race rig thread when you get it

i cant remember the last time i "tried a bike out" before buying it. you know whether a bike fits based on its frame geometry, your own knowledge regarding what fits you, and input from the retailer, not from "test riding."

one of my favorite bikes of all time was a caad9. i didnt like it the first time i rode it because it was "different" than what I was in tune with, but once i adapted to its characteristics, i loved it. same thing for a caad10 i was on for a while.

YMMV, I guess.

This sort of proves my point that it's difficult to get any meaningful recommendations on which bike to buy over the internet (especially when they are of similar build/quality). Everyone has their method.

True enough, just adding to it.

I'm going to put in a petition to create a parody forum. We could call it: Bike Forums.
