oh great...now i'm addicted
so...did my first 40k TT last saturday. i loved it! i almost collapsed when i hopped of the bike...it had to be hilarious. (full disclosure, it was a cycling leg of a triathlon relay. i know that doesnt count, but at least it gives me a bit of a baseline).
my time was 1hr 10min and change. not great compared to "the 33" elite, but i was happy with it given what i was working with (only owning a road bike for 2 months (400 miles on the odo :)), no aero equipment other than clip-on aerobars, really crappy worn out tires, etc.). i think i have a lot of opportunity to get faster just from getting stonger/fitter and improving my positioning for TTs. i plan to keep building my motor through increasing my base miles and then start incorporating intervals into my training. my goal is reach the magical 1 hour 40k time by end of next summer. my question is...should i spend any money at all upgrading my current road bike to improve aero dynamics (cable routing, wheels, integrated aerobar shifters, etc.)? or just ride it as is with the clip-on aero bars and work on my motor and my position on the bike until i can afford a true TT bike? getting an aero helmet and skinsuit is on my to-do list regardless of what i plan to do with the bike. ps - sorry if this question gets asked a million times. feel free to berate me as-needed. |
