Do you know the route? It's mostly White Rock to Scott. If you're coming from Folsom, I'd take Prairie City to White Rock and ride towards town (west) until you see the group.

I'm pretty sure they count for everything except 2->1 upgrades. At least I thought so.

And for cat 5's I think you get bonus points/starts for doing the clinics too.

That's what I thought. Plan on doing all the January ones anyway.

When you guys crash on ice and hurt yourselves in January races I will point to this post and say "I was right, January is too early."

January is too early.

wktmeow 11-27-13 04:44 PM

Yep, it's 1.5 points each with the clinic

Source: used these to upgrade last season

January is too early.

Fremont is pretty much guaranteed ice-free. Early bird road race.....not so much.

Lol, it was about 50 degrees or so for the Early Bird races last year.. you need a better excuse!

Patterson Pass was a different story, but I avoided it b/c it has "Pass" in the name - just got lucky in avoiding the ice-capades.

Hey, one of us is racing tomorrow. I don't need excuses. I just don't want to race from January - September, and I prefer the mid to late-season stuff. I may do New Years, too, if I'm in town. You should do it.

I ended up going up into the hills. How was the ride?

Norcal cycling news did a nice roundup of local group rides: http://norcalcyclingnews.com/2013/11...l-group-rides/

Thanks for the link. Anyone know if (1) Sunday Roasters happens, and (2) if the Great America noon ride is actually happening?

The "Great America" ride is now known as the "Alviso Crit" I think, and it's just Tuesdays and Thursdays at noon. (their notes on it are old, I assume it's the same ride). And it doesn't ride around the parking lot anymore, they do a circuit on roads somewhere in Alviso.

It has a jersey for the Tuesday & Thursday winners, a Facebook page, and sometimes people shoot videos of the finish. Look for it on FB.

Similar crowd to the Spectrum ride, but smaller group - 20 to 40 from what I hear. I'll probably try it out a few times next month since I work close to there.

Hmmm....a bit lacking for Sac ride info, but that's okay.

Possibly. I would just sit in. I haven't been on a River Ride since August, so I wouldn't be in any shape to drive the train.

Good bumping into you (literally) on the River Ride today. Rio guys come out in force, eh?

Just to be an annoying pedant, the Early Bird Road Race doesn't climb Patterson Pass, it starts in the town of Patterson several miles to the south and follows Del Puerto Canyon. There. I feel better now.

Who won the champ's jersey??

Bryan Larsen, didn't hang around for the "ceremony" though. Pretty good turnout (100+??), no crashes, relatively good road manners buy all. So, not a bad ride.

That was my first time on the River Ride and I kind of knew the route, but didn't know where the finish was along the way. I figured we had about 10 miles until the finish, so I tucked back a bit to grab a quick bite and drink, but that happened to be about a mile from the finish. By the time I realized it, I didn't have enough time to get back up through the pack. I would not have had the legs to do much, but good to remember for future rides.

You too!

That was fun.

Thanks everyone for recommending routes. I ended up doing about 4 hours on Thanksgiving morning doing an out and back a bit past Stinson beach. I thought I'd be taking 1 out, but ended up taking Panaromic highway instead and it kicked my ass. I followed that up with a ride yesterday out to Rodeo beach and a couple laps around Conztman/Bunker/McCullough roads. Also very fun ups and downs. You have some great roads to ride down there.

Now I'll let you get back to talking about NorCal racing, while I get back to the rain.

If you start posting about the alviso ride champ jersey on fb, I'm unfriending you. That **** is ridiculous and embarrassing to see!

Ha. I'll probably wear the jersey at least once this month or next.. I mean you have to if you win!!

The ride is close to me and looks like good training, hard to resist. Haven't done it yet but soon.

If the Noon Ride had a jersey, you wouldn't flaunt it?

I absolutely would not.

Outside of Wednesdays, I'm not even top-3 on the noon ride. Any day I "win" we'd have to first decide what that means, and then overcome the awkwardness that is the strongest guys just riding for fun and not contesting most things.

The Morning Ride has a cool little green-man charm they pass among the fire-station sprint winners, but you just put that in your pocket. A whole jersey, no way. And the guys that do Alviso, it's like a cat 6 fest. That you might wear that jersey, but piss on strava? The hypocrisy is mind blowing! :P

After doing the Patterson Pass EB RR this year, I can safely say I will never do it again. Literally freezing at the start line and an absolute **** show through the ice on the way back. No thanks.

I didn't know Jelly Belly employed Cat 6ers, but the world is a-changin I guess!

I would only wear the jersey for the few minutes it takes to take the mandatory photo, I wouldn't wear it all week or anything.

Also, Strava. =]

But it's not Patterson Pass!

Beaker 12-02-13 09:33 PM

...although I do agree that the 2013 edition was a ****-show. I had the bruises to prove it.
