I am a little bummed that I can't do copperopolis this year. Last year was agony on my feet. Can't do another lap with that pain.

I'm excited not to do Copperopolis.

The rough section at Snelling was enough to make me think twice about doing something worse.. I'm way too fancy for that ****!!

I would have been 2nd at Copperopolis had my bike not shaken the front derailleur off. Got into a 2-man break pedaling 3.5 w/kg. Everyone else had just given up and let us roll away.

Finished 4th after 20 miles of max gearing of like 34/14.

I do believe literal tears were shed. Worst pain I've ever raced through. 100x worse than cramps.

Wow, you guys are really making me feel excited about this! I'm a Cat 5, so at least it'll only be 2 laps. Thinking of getting the Specialized CG-R seatpost.

two laps is fine. long way to drive for a novelty race, though.

the road is just garbage. dirt would be preferable. check your spokes, skewers, bottle cage bolts, stem bolts (front and back), seatpost bolt, saddle clamp, shifter clamps, derailleur clamps.

basically, if it has a torque setting, use it. if your bottle cages open, tie a chuck of old tube in there to give them extra grip.

I think it's one of those races you do once to say you did it, then find something better to do that weekend.

honestly, it's the perfect race for me to excel at except that my ankles don't bend correctly.

Never before have I initiated a winning break with steady 280w tempo, but on this course that'll do it.

Choice a) SC Classic 8am with questionable road conditions. Will it be dry enough by 8 am?
Choice b) Davis crit 2:40pm, with somewhat qustionable conditions. It should dry up by then, unless it rains during the day.
Choice c) Just do a training ride, and no injury my foot further.

Choices...!

Who's doing Topsport this weekend?

I'll be out there.

Haven't done the RR course before, but it sounds like it's mostly wind and not hills that you need to worry about on that course.

Speaking of it. Who did the circuit race, how is it? I am trying to decide between CCCX on Saturday or Top Sport Circuit race on Sunday. The TS circuit race is 75min, that is a long time to be going around 5 mile circles, plus it is a two hour drive. On the other hand it looks like course if flat, and I might have a higher chance of getting points.

I think Topsport is an all or none deal. Gotta do the road race and TT to get the circuit race in.

I did TS the first year it was offered. That year, we did the TT and CR on day one and the RR on day 2. The RR did not have much climbing but did have some cross wind sections and some terrible road sections similar to Madera or Copperopolis. I remember riding in the dirt on the side of the road to escape the pavement. And the RR had a couple of U turns in the road. I thought the RR sucked but I liked the TT and CR. They may have changed the RR route but I suspect it has features that are similar to what I experienced.

Yeah topsport is a stage race, so you gotta do it all. The exciting thing for cat 2's is that the p/1/2's race together but are scored separately.

Debated just sleeping in my car on Saturday night but sprung for a hotel on Saturday night instead.

That'd be miserable. At least the weather will warm up, but I know I'd be stiff stiff at a 75ish mile road race and wouldn't look forward to more racing after sleeping in the car.

That's a nice little trick to get more 2's out there. There is also at 35+ 3's category which is what i think i'm gonna sign up for. If it was just regular 3's i could easily talk myself out of signing up and just do the cccx again.

This will be my first stage race. I usually ride on Easton EA90 SLXs with 23mm tires. Are the roads so bad that I should use a pair of wheels I was actually going to sell which are Dura Ace to Open Pro 32 hole tank wheels with 25mm Conti Grand Prix? I really don't want to flat out or have a mechanical on my first stage race and not be able to continue or something. But the Eastons are really fun to ride and that's what I've been riding on. I could swap tires to the Eastons if that makes more sense.

the 2012 Topsport flyer has a different RR than the flyer for the last two years. i think in 2012 they used the Knights Ferry course or at least in the area of knight ferry. This years course looks like it goes around a lake. I havent done either topsport. knights ferry this year was fine, but its possible they used one of the cross streets (back in 2012) where the staging was for this years 2014 knights ferry. about 2km from the staging area the road almost requires a dirt bike

I got 3rd at Topsport after getting worked over by three teams while in the GC lead.

Both have some lousy bits of road. The TT at Topsport is a decent BMX course.

Levi Liepdoper used to do Slopperopolis. You'd hear a bunch of people wheezing up the climb and he'd be on the front drilling it with his mouth closed.

Pretty area. Decent Italian place in town.

I was fitted for and will be trying out some custom insoles. Hopefully they give a little relief for the hotfoot. It's sort of bad luck to be time-limited to 3.5ish hours, race p12, and have your strength be the endurance courses. ..

Next year I get to go to 35 123, so at least the extra lap/time goes away and most everything becomes race-able again. Or who knows, maybe the $$ insoles will actually help.
