One thing I wish more feds do that OBRA used to do is have riders pay for 4 cloth numbers when they renew their license. Use the same number at every event, all year long. Reduces trash/waste, the registration process on the day of the race for pre-reg, and it makes sense. I really wish more feds would break away from USAC in this regard.

i'm no expert but i'd guess the issue is that they have to score the 30, 50, 100 other riders. a bunch of seemingly minor issues add up and can cause delays in getting out results, etc.

that said, sometimes $h!t happens, so doing what you did is the best way to reconcile.

so much of this is just common sense, but i'm guessing few people bother to think about the impact of stuff on all the admin behind the scenes.

WA does that too; but I'll take a full race calendar, a huge race scene, and nice weather over cloth numbers any day!

But in Portland you get condescending hipster cx racers, a lot of ironic high viz, and a chance to ride your sweet fixie on a real track!

Honestly, racing in Nor Cal is still a mind f*ck sometimes because its like, **** I can't race this weekend- oh well only like 75 more races on the calendar this year.

Also cloth numbers are one more thing to forgot on race day.

I glued your number on at a TT and asked you if you also wanted pins. As I recall, you declined the pins. Was that the one that came off?

We have cloth numbers at Velo Sports Center and Hellyer. The spray glue does not work well with the cloth numbers. The glue helps to hold the cloth number in place while pinning.

The beauty of cloth numbers is that we can pin the number on the day before when racing at Velo Sports Center and when we show up in the morning to race, all we have to do is let the guys know we are there and they check off our names. Since we are pre-registered, there is no waiting in lines for numbers or signing of waivers. We pump the tires and go on the track for warmup.

Speaking of Hellyer, races start soon! I wonder if I'm gonna chicken out on racing.

Nuts, Madera Stage Race failure. Stung by bee about a mile into TT (first stage). U turn to car, use epipen, go to urgent care.

Eh...Is what it is. Got some meds via IV to supplement the epipen and have to take it easy today and tomorrow. Otherwise, all good. Good shot lost at points though.

Vlee Huis (Bakersfield RR) has hives about 500m from the start/finish. Great course. But you will get bees.

I had a bee hit my eyelid on a descent at 40 mph and the thing just crawled around for a few seconds and in my panic I swerved into the road and a car almost hit me. Luckily I recovered, but that was probably the closest I came to dying.

In the end, it sucked, ended my race due to my predisposition for dying from bee stings, but I like bees. They serve a great purpose locally to globally and its a bummer the little guy died giving me what for (assume they're honey/pollinating bees out there). Probably scared it just as much as it scared me.

A few other guys in the 3's got stung as well. They sucked it up and pressed on. HTFU, right?

In other news woke up today with throat feeling like it was sanded down with sand paper, and head feeling like it is stuffed with cotton balls. I am sick again. FML.
