How old was the chain?

Couple month old, 2kish miles. I was about to replace it. Maybe I should invest in chain measuring tool.

Bent tooth somehow? I've seen that where a tooth is slightly bent towards the outside causing the chain to kind of roll off of the chain ring. It usually won't happen under steady small efforts, but violent tough bursts will throw it off. Does the chain shift around on the chain ring at all? Put it on a stand and peddle forward slowly to see if it does, or if there's a point where it kind of snaps back into place

Hmm, I'll check. Thanks.

Ok, put a bike on a stand with spare back wheel. Didn't notice anything unusual about the chain, or the teeth on chainring. Damnit. Going to bring it to a shop.

Weird. 2k miles doesn't seem like enough to really wear a chain. And even if it was worn it doesn't seem that like could explain it.

Gremlins?

My awesome luck? lol.

Took it to outfitters, The chain is fine, but FD might be miss adjusted. When it's already shifted everything looks ***** donky, but during a shift it looked like chain was almost ready to jump it. They will take a look at it. I don't remember if I was shifting or not during the sprint.

On a side note, I swear I thought I hit my head against the ground when I binned it, but looking at the helmet there are no marks.

Oh well I guess I can be social now and join a group ride or two (probably not spectrum lol).

A vid from Oakland crit last year to get you pumped up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxuFhKbvNZc

Anyone know if the course is the same this year as last?

Jandro 09-18-13 02:05 PM

Huh, so that was Rand's last race? Cool guy... and he can put back more than a few pints when he's not terrorizing Strava.

That course looks like a lot of fun. EXCITED.

I'm thinking it's the same based on the flyer.

I'll be there! Huge field compared to the 30 to 40 that have been at my other races.

The first one of the "series" was back in Feb, yeah.

But my guess is the low pre-reg counts prompted them to axe it.. maybe I shoulda pre-reg'd!!

Assuming the usual Velo Promo p/1/2 start time of 8 AM, it's a bit much.. I feel crazy enough leaving the house at 5 AM to make it to their other races!

b ride is shorter, with longer regroups. good for fat people (me) and crit racers (you).

It's ok, you can call me fat.

Ygduf 09-26-13 03:52 PM

I think they are mostly redundant, but crit racers are also generally super sensitive.

The Low Key Hill Climbs start this Saturday with Montebello. Pre-register if you want a spot. If you have not done these, they are a great off season training series of hill climb events that are well organized and run. I did not call them races since they are not sanctioned or insured as a race per se.
