If I go, the race would be replacing a 65 mile RR in my home town with about 4,800 feet, so for training purposes the RR would be better but I'd rather race a crit in a 55+ field.

Chico was very loose on rule enforcement. I'm stating more as fact not to debate (other threads exist) if that was good or not.

Taking pace behind cars - a regular thing in both CR and RR, some did not have cars available to pace behind, most did.
Numbers - they went out of their way to state no Wrinkling. There were wrinkled and even folded numbers (folded - the area reduced by folding over the sides)
Time cuts - They were published and not used best I know.
Pushing other than a teammate
Offering food to other than a teammate (I didn't look this up - I believe it is against the rules)
Gear Roll out - there was non for the TT
Jerseys - there were a few non compliant jerseys.

Without debating the good and bad of it, I was wondering if that is a normal NoCal thing. Was Chico that way last year?
VOS, Cascades, Nationals are more strict.

I thought you were a crit-only kinda guy; if you want a climby road race the Wente RR is great.

The crit is the next day; the course is fine, it's just pretty low key with a generally small turnout. Not sure why but it's just not a big crit.

Wente RR is on Sunday and there is no Wente crit on the NCNCA calendar. There is a Red Kite crit on Saturday.

I have raced the Wente RR. It has a hard hill and the finish is on the climb. So a 4 lap race has 5 times up the climb. As a bonus, the race is run through a wind farm.

Time cuts were the same this year as last. Bascially, if you finish the stage, you move on.

Sounds like the car pacing was a bigger issue this year than in the past. Could be because more pro teams with their own cars than in the past. I'd THINK they'd be wise to just have one or two neutral follow cars for all to use. Seems a bit unfair to the field if an Optum or Safeway guy gets to motor back on while the small time cat 2 has to pack it in.

Numbers, they say no wrinkling, but were lenient this year and last. It's a multi day stage race and you're stuck with the same number set for three days. They'll get wrinkled, but shouldn't be "intentionally wrinkled"...at least that is how I read it. We had one guy in our field take a spill or something and his number got folded over (pins popped out) and the motoref came by to make sure he was in the right field since the folding obscured the view of his full number.

Pushing? Like assistance or like get out the effing way pushing?

Gear rollout seems like it SHOULD happen for the TT?? Not sure what the rules are with Jr's; do they need to announce they are a Jr needing a rollout or is it a rollout only if asked to do so thing?

Rollouts are required for all Juniors. Reporting to the rollout area is up to the rider, and is supposed to be immediately after the finish and within sight of the start-finish or an official (no monkey business). The rollout area location is supposed to be announced at the start. The starting ref will normally ask if there are any Juniors in the field.

That's what I'm looking at. My confusion was about the criterium, which it seems like it isn't on the calendar this year.

Wondering how this works at a TT? In this instance, the TT started just at the edge of town and it was a show up, line up (about 5 people deep), and get sent off as your start time comes up. Starter guy confirmed your number, start time, and held you in place, while some one else counted your start down. Granted, I was in a 35+ group, so no chance of a Jr rollout needed.

This is my son's second year of racing. In each race, after rollout the official will initial his race number. In a stage race maybe they'd need to add the time and date too.

One of the officials, from a comm car or one of the assistant judges, is assigned to rollout. They mark off the distance and get into position before the race finish. One time I judged the finish and ran over to the rollout area right afterwards. I have a rollout sheet on my clipboard that has the Junior's numbers for each race. If they don't report, they are DSQ'd.

unsolicited advice: breaks, even solo breaks, are less about FTP than they are making time in the corners and getting the situation right. know the psychology of the pack and when they are willing to let someone go, then push your luck and take the time they will give you and hope it is enough to last. very rare is a guy who can outpower a group on his own.

work for a minute to get a decent gap, then ease up and let them think you're not a threat. then once they've decided you're not a legit threat, ease back up to threshold and watch the gap grow.
