    You always make me think in terms of details. I picture you asking me "well, when you say xyz, what do you mean?" So for my goals I want to put some details. 2014 Bethel Spring Series, overall Cat 3-4 (as well as promote the Series of course). I may try the M45 races but I figure that's gsteinb's turf (2014 will be the 3rd year I'm eligible to do the race and I haven't done it once, for various reasons). Win at Ninigret. Win the Kermis. Win at New Britain. Those are optimal courses for me and I know I'm fast enough to win them. Be a factor at Keith Berger, Hartford, New London if it happens.

    To put things in perspective I've never, ever won a race from May through September. I've won in March, April, and October, but not between, not in the "summer" races. I really want to change that. Hell I've even thought about doing intervals.

    Lose 25 lbs, to get to a 190 lb race weight (still huge, I know). Upgrade to 3s on the road and B's on the track (have to get to C first though). Those two might both be stretch goals. My main goal is to keep riding and getting stronger and just let it come.

    Just to get something on paper as written goals are much more likely to be achieved:

    Podium first 4 races of the year in the 3's assuming same races as last year-flatish and nasty weather which both suit me
    Become a factor at the weekly 1/2/3 training race. A lot of stronger riders show up to this race so it is a good test.
    Get a TT bike and get consistent results on it.
    Get cat 2 upgrade(before Capital state race which in the middle of June would be awesome and very doable)
    Score points in a p12 crit-stretch goal
    Get my brother into cycling and do some type of event with him. He lives in LA so this might be a tough one

    just checking in and reading through these goals. it's very cool to see lots of stretch goals. why not think big?

    nice! some disagree with me, but i think that first one is pretty darn important before moving on. finding that line first is different than a top finish, at any level. if you get that one covered, the 2nd one might be taken care of. i don't focus too much on the upgrades as i think it will become obvious, but it is very cool to put it out there. i think you can make it happen.

    don't underestimate what it may take to win one. it's not just about the bike. i think that's also what draws me to it--seems SO simple on the surface (ride as fast as you can, paced, in a straight line) but has many layers that reveal themselves over time.

    good luck with the goal! i suspect you might be a good stage racer.

    i'll also add:
    * win a stage and podium (top 3) at a big stage race. always a stretch, esp as a solo rider--but still achievable.
    * top 5 in nationals ITT. another stretch for me, but it is something to strive for. podium is 5 deep at nationals, but i think hardware should be top 3. i wouldn't refuse a 5th place medal in this one, though!
    * win a p123 race. tough one because i've had to race a bit less in order to be more on form for stage races, and no way i'm there for the big stage races. it's my goal for the few that i do. haven't passed up a chance so far to enter p123 when it has been available.

    If I start racing again someday, I would like to win a State Crit gold medal in masters. Got 3 silvers

    My SoCal host family actually suggested bringing Junior out with me for a week - they'd take turns looking after him while I rode with one of them. The Missus would be unhappy though - it may be that the next time I go I'll leave Junior behind (full time day care for a week or so), and if we go after tax season then all of us will go and we'll stay in a hotel nearby.

    For speed I honestly don't know what I'm lacking. I think that the crank length is where it starts and then I have to work on it from there. I'm committing to 175s since that's what I had when I last broke 40 mph "at will", it's what I ran in 2005, 2010 (my best couple recent years), and 170s seem to keep me down a bit.

    The weight loss thing has been on going and progressing better than I expected so far. I didn't think I'd dip into the 160s until later this winter but I'm at 166-168 right now.

    If I could I'd lead you out. Nutmeg (if that's what you're referring to) is all about position. Keith Berger (USAC version) is a bit tougher, I can't get a handle on it myself.

    cdr, if you show up next season in form, i'll do whatever i can to help you win those races. would love to see a little more cohesion with our 3 squad, which is pretty strong in crits. i'll be back in new england in may.

    nope, never won. have a couple 2nd place finishes. i struggle with staying focused while at school. i get my workouts in, but diet/sleep/recovery has been lacking.

    thanks, yeah. in solo just-for-fun efforts I got near 5w/kg for 50+ minutes. That's at 180. Hoping to take the grade out, get near the same power, and see where it stacks up.

    I've always been more ability than skill. From the outside, TT seems like I'd be less likely to **** it up, but we'll see when I get out there. I live local (15-minute ride) to a TT series that runs from Spring to Fall. Should have plenty of opportunities to work on it.
